I am living away from home and could not resit the urge to play/record. At home I have a Tascam FW 1082 i run thru Ableton Live 7 Window XP. Here i have HP G60 laptop with Vista. I installed Cubase. It literally took me 35 minutes to complete the registration. I used Cubase a few times before and switched to Live for a reason. Its terrible. So i start my first track. The delay between metronome and whats recorded is .068 seconds. Enough to be really annoying. In Live its worse. I would imagine most of the credit is due to Vista but...

Great way of getting your mix on the computer.

This thing is your best bet for your money if all you want to do is get the signal from your mixer onto your computer. You get a very clean stereo mix (allowing pannings for drums and such). No fuzz or static that you can get from just plugging into your computers line in. If you are wanting to record some stuff in your bedroom the Lexicon is the way to go. Only draw backs are the lack of phantom power, so don't plan on running any condesors directly into this (not good for podcasting then!). But if you are like me and have a mixer with Phantom then this thing is all you need!

Nice hardware difficult software

The hardware part is nice. Good quality and sound The panel layout is logical and easy to use

The software is another story. The registration and activation is very complicated and not user friendly. The Cubase LE 4 software is very difficult to start with. This is my first try at computer recording. Maybe an experienced audio engineer would find this an good program. For a couch player, it is like rocket science.

First I want to say, this is a good audio interface, and for what I want it to do it works perfectly. I run my mixer into the 2 inputs on the back and send it to the computer and its all good.

However, when using the interface by its self with no mixer or anything there are a few drawbacks to it. First, the mic input doesn't have phantom power, which is a bummer. Second, the instrument input is ALWAYS panned to one side (left?) and the mic input is ALWAYS panned to the other (right?) I can just switch to mono on my computer but I shouldn't have to. All in all, considering the price its really not a bad interface at all. Preamps are pretty decent, and I like that it has a 3.5mm headphone output instead of a 1/4.

Does a Great Job

Worked very well for me. No problem w/hardware or software. Setup was fast and easy. Had two multi-track demos down in short order, and the quality was great. The registration process is a bit cumbersome, but the software works well (I have Windows XP)and it is not difficult to get the basics down fast. In fact, it was easier to work w/the Alpha and Cubase than it was working w/my old four-track tape-based studio. I'm happy with the purchase.
