Like the Omega and Lambda, the Lexicon Alpha USB Audio Interface is a complete portable desktop recording studio. It offers a 2x2x2 USB I/O mixer which is powered directly from the USB bus. You can be connected to the XLR inputs and the 1/4" balanced line inputs at all times while controlling input levels and monitoring from the front panel. The front panel also offers a Hi-Z instrument input and a 1/8" headphone amplifier output suitable for all headphone types. Alpha ships with Steinberg Cubase LE recording/editing software and Lexicon Pantheon VST reverb plug-in.

Cubase LE offers 48 tracks of tracking, supports up to 8 VST instruments, and is compatible with both VST system link and Rewire 2. The Lexicon Pantheon VST reverb plug-in offers 35 factory presets and 6 reverb types and lets you edit 16 parameters per reverb type.

Great USB interface

I bought this for one reason, when I'm traveling & want to record practice I need something with a USB interface to connect my instruments & mics to my laptop, (no other inputs). If you have a laptop this is the poor mans version of the high zoot field recorders & worth it. The Lexicon does just what it is advertised to do. I've been using it on a Vista 32 bit computer with absolutly no problems. I have nothing good to say about the enclosed recording software. It's a 90 day Stienberg sampler that's so difficult to register the trial version there's no need to bother with upgrading. FYI I get great results with Audacity (free) or Cakewalk (my copy works on Vista 32 & 64 bit). I'm happy. Good recording to all.

I use it as an external sound card and it works beautifully. I get wonderful quality and if you use it just right it does the trick. That being said there are SERIOUS DRAWBACKS. There are no drivers for Vista 64-bit which is what I have. Vista-64 will detect it and you will be able to use it but if you switch back to the driver for another device it will no longer recognize the device and you will not be able to use it. It is a serious pain to try to reconnect. I have not used the recording software for it so I can not comment on that end of the device.

In all fairness I can't say that this interface doesn't do what it say's. All I know is it didn't work for me. I'm sure the hardware is just fine, but I never got that far with the unit. The software was originally designed for Windows XP and I tried loading this on a new Laptop with 64bit Vista. After jumping through hoops to get the liscense/registration keys I was then able to download upgrades that were supposed to allow the system to operate with Vista 64. That never was successful and half the software never did load properly. The Pantheon Reverb plugin never loaded and nor did the Halion software. Go to their support page and you'll find about 150 different problems in the directory that are just considered the "most common" questions. I returned it. I'm not going to waste endless hours just trying to get something to work. Unuser friendly.

I built a new computer, and my old PCI Pro Audio card would not work with it! and I Did not want to purchase another PCI Card as the slot is to be Dead soon, and this will work with my laptop as well....I got this and it installed and WORKED without a Problem (WinXP), the playback & recording sound is excelent... I did not use the included Software (I use Sonar) it works as well or better than my former sound card ($300) and my files I made before playback without any issues...

I use alpha for almost a year and I have no complaints at all...satisfied with my recorded guitars, mic is almost with a low noise, the price is awesome and the only thing that bothers me at this point is the absence of MIDI inputs. Generally I'm fully satisfied.
