It's an ok product but lacks useful features...

I run a home studio and have been using this card for two years now. It works ok for my use but may not be for everyone. Even I see and am choked by it's limits.

Pros: - The card sounds great when it works properly. - It is very simple to install. - plenty of manuals and good packaging. - Comes with some software demos... - Low latency direct monitoring.

Cons: - Every now and then I get static and M-Audio cant seem to fix it, others at teh message board have the same issues... - the non-balanced RCA style inputs are not a good choice... - No preamps on board so you need to run a preamp or small mixer into this card. - Hard to connect monitors to as there are only RCA outs. - The ProSessions and ProTools M-Powered CDs are ONLY DEMOS.

Overall, It's an ok card and does the job....but it lacks the ins and outs as well as proper connections and features to be as useful as something like a PreSonus Inspire 1394 external interface.

Midi, Latency, and Vista Problems

I've had this card for about 4 years. I've had bad latency problems with it, but overcame them by using the headphones. It has never played back any midi files - I have to use my C-Media Surround Sound Card. I would have replaced it years ago but I'm disabled and on a fixed income so I couldn't afford to replace it. Now that I have upgraded to Vista, I can't get it to work at all. Nothing plays back through it - neither wav nor midi files. I've checked the inputs, outputs, AISO drivers and everything. Nothing works although my system says that it works. I get no sound, so now I'm either going to have to downgrade to XP or change cards. I'm looking for another card. I abhor this card and hopefully can find another that is affordable.

I got one of these about 4 years ago and I recorded an entire demo with it! I used Cakewalk Home studio and though there are some latency issues with it if you have the input monitoring on, overall it records and plays back great!

The thing I love about this is that you can sunc up to 4 of them in one computer, and my band is currently recording our independent album on it! If I could find some hardware that uses S/PDIF we could expand our mic'ing capabilites and maybe do the next CD live-to-disk!

This card claims zero latency monitoring, but I still get plenty of it!! I have this product set up correctly and had a computer field tech double check it for me. I'm glad I'm typing this reveiw since I recently lost my voice doing take after take on vocal tracks ruined by latency glitches. I'd rather punch myself in the face than sing another note into this card!!!

Sound pure! Very easy to definition mp3 or Wave audio. Driver and control panel is smart. For unbalance audio cable, RCA plug is more more better than 1/4" phone! This card design in simple and perfect.
