Most of the reviews on this are bad, but that is because most of the people buying are into keyboard stuff, and are having latency isues. If your that into it you shouldnt buy the least expensive unit in the first place. Also people need to learn how to use a computer and follow directions in order to install the software. This product is great for going staight out of a mixer to your computer to recorder. Don't whine people.

I've had this unit since 2003. I use it vice but only for the phantom power. Set up was easy with Sonar 4 Producer Edition. The only problem I have with it is that is has no Phantom Power. I records guitars nicely and MIDI keys, strings, drums etc. I am upgrading a firewire defor me.

The people that say they are having trouble installing this product have a severe problem reading manuals. I read the manual, installed it, played with the settings for 5 minutes, and I have no noticable latency in reason, or fruity loops. And no pops, or clicks. pls learn to change your settings in your software to best work with your hardware. If that is to hard for people a tape recorder may be a better choice. thnx

Would've been better at USB 2.0

M-Audio decided to make this device available for all systems that have USB. But instead of making it backward compliant, it's just backward. Therefore it only works at USB 1.0 specs. Consequently, you can only record or play back at 96khz, not both at the same time. Also I believe it only has ASIO 1.0 drivers which results in a lack of latency compensation when matching up audio and midi. Forget trying to use midi and vst instruments live. They'll be out of sync unless you put the latency at it's lowest setting, thereby chewing up your processor, especially as it's trying to stuff too much data into USB 1.0. However, if you want to use it as a straight record in, it has very good signal to noise, probably the best you'll find for the price.

THIS UNIT TAKES TIME TO INSTALL BUT.....

OK, i had just purchased this unit. Took a while to install but once u get it running you'll be amazed. I specifically needed a unit with RCA ins and outs and this one filled the bill perfectly. At first there was a conflict with my desktops soundcard. All i did was set the latency to high and adjusted the parameters in increments of one which u will see in any of your softwares audio settings.Coz im using this usb audiophile with 3 recording softwares. (cakewalk, cubase and the free software that this unit came with). Over all set up and installion can be a breeze if u make the proper adjustments on any of your softwares audio settings. Now im able to record my band track by track without having to pay so much money to get in the studio. This product works well too with any mixer out there in the market.
