I have been using this soundcard for some time now. It never runs without problems. It has left me without any sound in the middle of 3 sets when playing live... I use both pc and mac, none sucessfully.... As quoted down below, You were warned! M-audio is not trustworthy! Search for some other brand. I am never buying anything from M-audio ever again!

I am using this with an iMac G4 running OS X 10.3.9, and I have to reload the drivers every single time I want to use it (yes, I have downloaded the latest drivers from M-AUDIO). If I leave Logic 7, or the Mac goes into sleep mode, or if I turn the Audiophile off, then I have to reload the drivers, and even then it may not work. I have yet to record any audio through it after several months. POS for sure, but may be usable if they sort out the driver problem. Until then, you were warned.

Only for some applications

Works seamlessly with all my software. Sound quality is great. Drivers are solid, works great at what it does. I do have some big problems with this that have caused me to upgrade. It has only RCA unbalanced analog inputs which is not ideal for most gear; I lose a lot of signal when I have it convert a signal from one track to another using its digital mixer (software), necissitating a bump in gain when bouncing a track or recording a softsynth from MIDI to audio. I do like having the SPDIF in, but it is only good if you have a preamp that spits out SPDIF signal in the first place, in which case, you are probably gonna buy much nicer gear than this. As for home recording, I would recommend getting something with balanced inputs....didn't think much about it before I bought this a couple of years ago (was using line6 podxt to get guitar into my DAW, didn't think I'd need the balanced inputs, but now find myself with this extra box in my pile o' gear.

Great audio interface at a great price!

Awsome for the price! This box is the key component in my home recording studio. Its a 24-bit interface and is up to its specs. I use it for studio recording doing track-at-a-time recording and a high end studio mic, and this box introduces nothing - just as it should! The hardware controls are simple and the software interface provides lots of easy-to-understand control over mixing and routing.

Plus, it comes with a limited version of Live Delta which is an extremely versatile and powerful program that can be used for multi-track recording, live DJ clip-sessions, and much more. It took me a week to go through this software and learn all its ins and outs, and when I was done, I sprung for the $225 upgrade to the full version. The M-Audio box cost $150, so for $375 I had a powerful hardware/software solution for a home studio that cost less than the price of the software alone ($500). A great deal!

There’s a warning about not connecting to your computer when its turned on which is dissapointing. FireWire is supposed to be hot-pluggable. But, with my laptop, it works fine if I just close the cover so it goes to sleep, plug in the M-Audio box, turn on the box, and then wake up the laptop.

I upgraded from a soundblaster live and I am glad!

This is a great piece for any intermediate producer. My only complaint about this is the amount I/Os. If you are using hardware equipment you will also need a mixer to get everything into the interface. But other than that its a great interface. The control panel is very easy to understand. And it has a more detailed sound than any soundblaster card that I have heard.
