don't know what I would do without it

I have owned this product for over a year, and in my opinion, it's the greatest investment I have made for my 002Rack. I have it connected to the 002R through light-pipe so that I can have 12 simultaniously preamped tracks, especially for drums. It works great, sounds solid, and is built like a tank. I love this thing.

Works wonders with Digi002

I personally streched my budget with this one and I'm completely happy with it. I was in an emergency situation where I bought a less expensive version of this from another company and wasn't working when I got it (this was also a preowned peice with visible damage so it's more my fault). Without even trying this out at home before I took it recording, I just plugged it in after taking the other peice out of the rack. I'm very happy about the features on this unit but lacking a BNR Word Clock out on the Digi002 was a disappointment and a panicing situation. Ater messing with the clock switch on the front of this M-Audio unit and the clock in Pro Tools it synced up and worked perfectly!! I wish I could comment on sound quality but I haven't reviewed tracks yet I just know that they're all recorded.

I've been using the 1814 for years. Finally got the dough to score this piece and now I have 16 balanced channels. This thing blows the Firepod out of the water!

I've owned mine for almost a year now. I use it every day in the studio. The pre amps are very clean. Not much colorization of sound, just quiet and clean. Nice. Excels as a front end for your DAW (especially for your drum kit). The instrument inputs are very usable. I run the bass straigt in. The M-S matrix on channels 7and8 is a huge bonus. Very nice feature for this price. The ADAT outs are nice and quiet. (my ONLY complaint on this piece is no 96K, but I'll make do with 48K) Inserts on every channel if you need them. I really on this piece quite a lot. It has become a real centerpiece for I/O in my studio. It's an aweful lot for the money. I'm not pimping it, I just legitimately appreciate this addition to my studio. Money well spent.

M-audio's Octane is amazing!

I'm doing a session right now with this new M-Audio 8 channel mic preamp, connected to a stack of ADATs through the lightpipe output. I'm using a studio Projects B1 and B3 in an M-S stereo configuration for the overheads on channels 7 and 8, with a separate kick (AKG D-112 on channel 6)and separate snare (SM-57 on channel 5), as well as a Marshall JCM 900 2500 half stack (SM-57 on track 3), a Fender Precision (into the discrete instrument input on channel 2), and a DB-60 metronome click track going direct to the A/D converter on channel 1.

The tracks are VERY clean-sounding, with virtually no coloration... it sounds like the instrument, not like the preamp. It's got tons of transparency and detail, with plenty of headroom for drums. The M-S stereo matrix sounds wide and deep, and is mono-compatible. All in all, an excellent-sounding 8 channel (!) preamp.
