The best interface without going to HD!

By far this is the best interface out there for Pro Tools without moving up to HD. You can connect better preamps, A/D and D/A converters, and external clock bringing that HD sound for drastically less. The stock preamps, converters and clock are not bad for getting started. This interface has respectfully low jitter and a clean, uncolored sound. If your looking to maximize your Pro Tools rig without the insane cost of the pros, this is your ticket.

I really like this interface. I'm new to recording and am using protools m-powered with this unit. The recordings sound pretty good for such a low cost unit. You can route the outputs however you want with the DSP mixer in the settings of the profire. Therefore, you can have separate headphone mixes by creating an aux bus for each channel and have the master volume for the monitor speakers separate. Be sure to go through the manual in the install CD to explore all options. It's actually pretty simple. For the money, I'd say this is one of the better units going for under 1K.

I bought this interface about a month ago and love it. I used it with pro tools m-powered and do not have a problem at all. For the people that have trouble with the "Cant turn down the monitors without turning down the headphones". It is possible if you know how to route the outputs. Very easy!!!
8 pre amps can record a drum set and for the money you cant beat this.
I never got a chance to use the midi or other outputs/inputs but you can add a lot more to this interface.
Email me with any questions:]
Go out and pick it up!!!

I've had this for about a year now. And I think its awesome. Tons of I/O for the price. Sounds great too! Some cons? Well, when using all 8 pres (like for drums) you will start to notice a little amp hiss. Its not terribly loud though, and I can usually notch it out with an EQ pretty easy. Also, I've always felt as though the knobs on the front feel really cheap and plastic. And for the chap who mentioned the thing about the headphones also controlled by master volume. Yes, this kinda sucks. But there are ways around this. I put my monitors on outputs 7-8 for this reason. then you can configure SWReturn 1-2 to go to outs 7-8. Set the master volume to controll outs 7-8. Then you can set physical outs 1-2 to either be SWReturns 1-2 also (like I did) this give you the same feed as the monitors but the main volume knob wont effect it. Or you can assign an other SWReturn so you can send a separate mix. (I did this for the second phone jack).
