The redesigned Pulsar II small-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone takes M-Audio's pencil condenser technology to an even higher level. Designed in the U.S.A. by veteran engineers and hand-assembled to exacting standards, the Pulsar II mics exhibit quality comparable to that of vintage classics. Features like -10dB pad and 80Hz high-pass filter switches, higher SPL than the original ,and a redesigned solid-brass backplate deliver smooth, accurate sound in the studio and on stage. The Pulsar II condenser microphones have many applications including drum overheads, acoustic guitar, piano, close-miking strings and woodwinds, room miking, and more.

The Pulsar II easily adapts to many recording and live situations. The 12dB/octave 80Hz high-pass filter reduces low-frequency rumble and the potential for overloading mic preamps with low-frequency signals. The -10dB switchable attenuation pad and thermal diaphragm treatment also allow it to handle high SPLs for its class. And the included T-shaped stereo mounting bracket facilitates XY and ORTF recording right out of the box.

Requires phantom power.

My first condensers! I really like them

(This is on the M-Audio Pulsar II Matched Pair) These are my first condensers (and my first experience with condensers), so please keep that in mind (my 2.5-star Product Rating is a guess). I honestly really like them, but I don't have a basis for comparison yet. Anyway, these are being used for drum overheads with a Beta 52 for my Yamaha Stage Customs (built in 1997). All 3 mics are on CoreX2 XLR's into a Peavey PV8 mixer going into my sound card - an X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 (the smallest one) - via the Tape Out. I'm currently leaving the EQ flat, and of course I'm using unity gain. The purpose for the recordings is half for fun, and half for self-critique. I am very pleased with the sound. During playback, I find myself wishing my drums actually sounded that good (keep in mind that I'm recording only myself). I truly believe that I got the best bang for my buck. I'm very glad that I bought these and I have no regrets.
