Wow. Where to start. I bought this mike to record vocals, guitar, and piano. It is incredible. I have used several mikes (dynamic and condenser) to record my acoustic guitar, but none compare to the MXL 992. It is much better for guitar than the MXL 990 because it has the low frequency roll off. The MXL 990 makes the guitar sound muddy, but as soon as plug in the 992 and turn on the rolloff switch, it sounds crisp, clean and exactly how the an acoustic sounds in real life. If you take proper care of it, it will last a long time.

I've had this mic for about a year and a half. The sound is incredible, and I can't believe I don't hear of more people using these. While it does have a bump in the high end, overall the mic is very smooth. The only problem is that at one point, it just stopped working altogether. No abuse, nothing, just stopped. Sent it in for repair because (thank god) I got the warranty, came back, worked fine. Then a few months later it did the same thing. Called to get a return authorization, and they said they could only repair it once, which makes it pretty useless. Somehow it started working again not long after, and last time I checked it works, but now the hinge of the shockmount cracked and split in half. The sound is great, but it's got definite build issue.

I have had this mic for a little over a year now and it has done wonders for me! I have never had a problem with it after recording 4 albums. I took it to my friends studio and after using it, he went immediately went online to buy some. YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH THIS MIC. This mic is perfect!

This mike rocks. The bang for the buck rules. This is a large body condenser with pad and bass rolloff switches that help it to do various tasks from vocals, overheads, instruments, cab miking, etc. Excellent go-to mike for budget concious musicians and sound engineers. If you can afford it get the windscreen and a pop filter to help with the sensitivity and sibilance. Try different distance, angles and you will not be dissapointed. As with most large diaphram(element) mikes it will pick up EVERYTHING so pay attention to your miking techniques and isolate as best you can. Nice case/shockmount included.
