The MXL V63MBP Computer Desktop Recording Kit includes a large-diaphragm microphone with cable, adapters, and a desktop stand. It gives you an easy and inexpensive way to record into your computer. The MXL microphone included in the kit is battery powered rather than phantom powered, and it comes with the cable and adapters that allow it to plug directly into your PC as well as into mic preamplifiers, mixing consoles, or computer audio interfaces-any equipment using XLR, 1/4", or mini-plug connectors. It's all about placement isn't it. From too far away (like 6 feet +) the signal is too low yeilding anemic tone with low dynamic range. Too close (like under 2 feet) and a marked proximity effect makes it muddy and woofy. But find the sweet spot (right about three feet in my setting) and it's got all the level and dynamic range of far more expensive large diaghpram condensers. Battery power makes it perfect for portable recorders like the Tascam DR-07.

This desk top recording is great. I have recorded three album with this mic. The sound is crisp and clear. If you have a computer base studio the is the recording kit for you.

I got this mike to make work tapes of new songs. I wanted a hot omni-directional make so I could record acoustic guitar and vocal at the same time without having to mess with more than one track. (If I wanted to take the time I could record each track separately and I'm sure the mike would work well for that application.) It far surpasses my expectations. I'm running it into M-Audio FastTrack then my Mac PowerBook to record on Garage Band. As others have mentioned, the battery eliminates the need for phantom power. I did add a pop filter and I use it on a floor stand rather than the desk stand. It's great.

MXL V63MBP Computer Desktop Recording Kit I just received this last week to record a voice-over for a marketing video I produced. The clarity of our voices was great. The quality of the microphone really added authority and professionalism to the video. The battery power is a nice feature- it means I didn't have to purchase a unit with phantom power. I plug directly into my PC's mic spot. I will be able to use it in the future to plug directly into the video camera. I'm thinking of buying another one.

Well built, solid, very nice sound, and the battery option really comes in handy. I do voice work and record my own music through Mixcraft. I worked at a top radio station as a continuity Director and had access to some of the best equipment...and this mic is fairly comparable to those high end mics, at least for my applications.

If you're on a budget, this mic with a little eq will serve your needs.
