Great Overhead Mic for Drums

I recently played at a local festival where the sound crew ran the MXL V900 as an overhead mic for the drums along with a kick mic. The sound was really quite remarkable. Cymbals and hi-hats were crisp; the snare and rack toms were well defined with clear voices. I now own this mic. The V900's beefy construction seems well-suited for gigging and life on the stage. And, mine always seems to garner favorable reviews from other drummers and soundtechs. It's an exception mic for an exceptional value!

I've been using two of these in live settings / on stage for Saxophone and acoustic Upright Bass (right above the f-hole) and they are killer! Also good for recording all instruments, including drums, the only thing I don't like it on is vocals (it's kinda thin) but on everything else it has that warm sound like a ribbon mic.

Great value in this package

I like to play acoustic style harmonica at certian times. This mic allows me to get the hand articulation and voice playing this way. I can get 10 inches back from it and it still picks up every tone in a rich smooth fashion keeping a good volume with out feed back. Placement on stage needs to be taken into account so don't play in front of the drums or a monitor thats right behind you. I can't use it in a small practice room with a lot of other instruments blasting away but on satge it works for me or in a studio setting it really shines. For the price of the package you can't go wrong, carry case, XLR cable and pop filter.

Excellent Value, Appearance & Sound!

Bought this microphone for a vintage 1940's style radio show we're performing with my 18 piece orchestra.

Initially I was attracted to this microphone for it's vintage appearance but pleasantly surprised at the sound quality!

It's low's to high's are all there and especially love the "timber" it adds to your voice! I'd like to describe it as a "rich full" sound that any broadcasting voice would expect to hear!

The travel case and microphone cable are an added bonus but the best part is the price! It would be difficult to beat this price for the quality!

I highly recommend this microphone!

Great Looks...Great Quality!

Very comparable to my SM58 and SM58 Beta. Much better studio quality sound than the 58's. You must be a little more cautious of feedback during live performance than with the 58's. However, works quite well with duo or trio group at lower stage volumns. Quality construction...and looks cool!
