You can find some mixers for less, but Mackie's the best. You can't hear how good the Mackie mixer is, because you can't hear it at all. Lot's of headroom. If you hear any noise, chances are it's from the source.

I've used a 1202VLZ-PRO for years to mix live stereo recordings with great results and reliablity. I recently expanded to 8-track live recording on a ZOOM/HD16. I'm using the 1642-VLZ3 for drum mix and combining the 4-busses with the sub-outs, which gives a wide range of input options. With 8 mic/line inputs on the ZOOM (with two direct HiZ instrument ins) there's channels galore for just about any live church/club situation. On top of all that, I can still use the mic/line switchable MAIN outs to send a mic-level drum sub-mix to the FOH via the snake.

(Note: I've read some comments about "half-power" main output, which could be the result of having the wrong switch setting...it's on the back of the unit next to the XLR connector, so it could easily be overlooked)

I purchased this mixer to use in a live performance application and I couldn't be any happier. My band has been using this mixer for the last 6 months and I have no compliants. This is a great mixer for this price.

Before buying this unit I owned a Behringer Eurorack UB 2442FX-PRO for about 3 years. I chose it for its direct outs, 4 stereo auxes, and the 4 stereo busses that came in handy when recording my band's first demo (and in many live applications).

However, the Behringer eventually had so many problems that I needed to upgrade. I was happy with the features the board had to offer, but I needed higher quality. This Mackie mixer provides exactly that!

The pre-amps are SUPER clean, no hiss or hum from the mixer at all. For the features/quality you get, this mixer is worth it.

My biggest complaint is that the Rack Ears were sold separately at a steep cost.

Also, Thumbs up on the manual! It was extremely easy to follow and was filled with worthwhile information about the product. So if you're new to working around a mixer don't be afraid, all of the features are clearly explained inside the manual.

I bought this mixer new and the main XLR outputs didn't work. I am disappointed with the quality of this one.

I thought for sure I couldn't go wrong with these new Mackie's but that was a mistake. It's a great looking board. I was excited to hook it up for the first time. We pluged in the Mic(Beta 57) Set the gain to the proper levels, powered on the speakers and brought the faders up to unity, and NOTHING!!!! After boosting the gain there was a faint signal coming through the speakers. I thought for sure we messed something up. I called up the sound guy and had him go through it. Same result. We tried using the aux out for the signal and they were fine. But the main Left and Right outputs put out less then half the signal the the aux's, rendering this unit completely useless. This is not what I expected being the unit was brand new out of the box.
