Barely Adequate

It's almost impossible to convey how cheap and shoddy the toy-grade elements are in all of these microphones, but even as low-end as this set it, it's actually overpriced. The SDC elements are particularly ridiculous.

Reproduction is inconsistent from one microphone to the next, the sound quality is atrocious compared to the cheapest real microphone I've ever used and the assembly and elements are so poor I can't see these holding up in live use.

The only thing good I can say about these is that they look OK.

For just a little more money you can get hugely better microphones, and I suggest you do.

These mics are good if you're on a budget, or just looking for something to get you started. For the most part the condenser mics work very well, but straight out the box one of my DM70's was a dud, but the rest are decent if you have to time to play aropund with them. The DM80 bass drum mic is a joke. Very bad response. I havce to nearly cut all the mid's out just to get a simple response. Overall they'll do the job ok. Save your money and buy a better bass drum mic. AKG or SURE

If you know how to use these well, you can get a great sound out of them (as is the case with a lot of low-end gear). I've been using these for recording (first analog, now digital) for a number of years. I recently started using a Shure SM57 for the snare, which is much better than using the one of the snare/tom mics for it. Other than that I only use these mics. I've got the cymbal mics on either side of the set, one tom mic between the 2 high toms, and one tom mic under the floor tom.

Do not confuse regular condenser mics with condenser mics designated for cymbals (like I did). When I bought these, I saw that the cymbal mics were condensers so I thought "oh I can use them for acoustic guitar" and things like that, but these definitely have no low-end to them. They're pretty nice little cymbals mics, and they're good at picking up mostly the cymbals and very little high end from the drums.

Overall they're a nice set of mics and as long as you use them well you can get a great sound from them.

Not THAT bad

I was expecting this to be replaced within 4 or 5 months when I bought the package but I really needed some backup mics.

2 years later and I still find myself using them.

and not just on drums. the dm70's work pretty good on vocals, trumpets, saxes, pretty versatile...

I have an array of mics and a professional studio and Must say I was impressed with these low quality mics

I mainly use AKG condensers and non condensers, and shure sm58,sm57 but, with the right compression, EQ, Pre amps these mics CAN sound just as good.

Dont get me wrong, You cant just plug these in and hit record. If i ever have to use them its usually as a backup recording situation, a second angle or merely an alternate track to play with. In that event I do hit them with Focusrite or Art Pro channel Pre amp and compressors which make them sound damn good. On top of that, grab yourslef decent cables and you turn these 30 dollar mics into a priceless piece of equipment

If you're like me, you never really read past the NADY sticker.

But if you throw the right equipment in the loop, know how to process or master sound, you cant tell these apart from the big boys

overall a great backup mic

These mics are a pretty good deal, but don't fool yourself into thinking you won't replace at least some of them (I would if I had the money). The condensers are easily my favorite part of the kit: they make great overheads and are phenomenal on an acoustic guitar (made my old POS sound great and my new one sound even better). They don't have much bass response, so you'll need something else for vocals, and there are far better kick mics out there. For the money, though, a good place to start.
