Noisy little bugger

I bought four of these PCM 200 mics for a theater group for a Christmas play that is read as a live radio show. Right off the bat it picked up every footstep even with a carpet covered stage. Every time anyone touched the microphone or the stand, the mic responds with a loud bassy boom sound. That problem remained even after cutting the bass drastically in the eq. which I had to do to anyway just to avoid an annoying bass feedback problem. I've tried these mics in two venues with the same results. The mic housing is very noisy. They might sound great with a loud band to cover up the inherent boominess of the mic, or for placement in front of a guitar cabinet, but for a speaking voice it is not quiet enough to produce a quality sound.

Not all it's cracked up to be

I got this mic because I liked the look of it. I thought it would have a good sound - and it does - WAYYY to sensitive. I first tried it at an outdoor gig and this thing picked up every foot step on solid ground. It also picked up everytime I touched the mic stand. Not too mention the feedback issues and the trouble getting it dialed in.

Don't think that it's a good deal - they have some work to do on this model before it's ready for real hard-working use. I think it'd make a great mic for someone who wants to set it up, never move it or touch it again and record, as long as they never say "s"'s.

Not what I was looking for:

This mic does look cool, but that's about where the good stops. It really does sound "vintage", so beware if you're looking for a clear vocal sound for a band. The sound isn't clear, it's very muffled and, well, "vintage". I would recommend getting a Sure sm57 or 58 instead if you're looking for quality, clear, realistic vocals. The looks are what sold me on this, don't get taken like I did. This thing is also very quite (it doesn't pick anything up very well) and the shape, though it looks awesome, is very akward for actual usage. There's a reason they don't make many mics that shape anymore. Not worth the money for most people, unless you want to sound like a 50s recording. Bottom line: pass this up and go for function over form.

First of all, this mic looks great. second, It's great for vocals. I've even used this mic for recording vocals, acoustic guitars, and even drums. It does have a problem with feedback, I think it's because it's an open mic and the sound can get in from all sides. Overall it's a great mic. You can't go wrong with Nady.

Great mic, but beware the switch

This Nady PCM-200 Classic Dynamic Mic is a great looking and sounding mike. Has a lot of punch, and the price sure beats other "classic" looking mikes. But apparently Nady has a problem in quality control when it comes to the "silent" on-off switch that it touts in the features list. My first PCM-200 works fine and the switch is truly silent. But I'm about to return my third (and last) attempt to get another -- all three subsequent units produce a very, very loud "POP" turning on or off, enough to worry me over the effect it might have on my PA speakers. Also, the first of this flawed trio was significantly lower powered than my initial unit. I'm bummed that I can't seem to get a pair of these that live up to the promised features. May be a bad production run, but someone at Nady should have caught this flaw.
