Front Totebag Ribbon View Cutaway Front, Sans Cable

The Nady RSM-2 Studio Ribbon Mic is designed for use in contemporary studios. It offers the unique natural sound previously only available on such classic large ribbon mics as the legendary RCA 44. Perfect for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, strings, horns, orchestras, choral groups, ambient instrument audio, and many live sound applications.

The RSM-2 delivers the uncompromised sound of a classic ribbon mic with its low-tension 2" 2-micron thick aluminum ribbon. It has smooth, natural response with extended low and high ends and delivers fast, accurate transient response.

The figure-8 pickup pattern offers extended sweet spots and increased off-axis high frequency reponse on the sides with decreased high response above and below on-axis (though with lower audio levels). Individual recording volume control of separate sources is enabled through the use of stereo mic setups where isolation is achieved by placing the source so that it is in the principal axis of one mic and the off-axis null of the other.

The RSM-2 has a machined housing with internal shockmount construction for rugged reliability and includes an integrated yoke mic stand mount, XLR cord, and padded carrying case.

Nady RSM-2 Ribbon Studio Mic Features:

  • Unparalleled, uncompromised sound of a classic ribbon mic

Naturally Amazing

We were recording with an Oktava MK219 Condenser mic and it was O.K. When my RSM-2 came in we quickly went to the studio, then armed a separate channel and recorded. As we listened to the original and then switched to the RSM-2 channel to compared, I was jaw-dropped at how natural it sounded. It warmed up my voice and thickened it with no effects added. I hate listening to myself on a recording but with this mic I can actually enjoy the quality of sound coming from the mic. It's a must buy for any recording artist on a budget. To put it simple, you will have no regrets after purchasing this amazing mic. Just don't do what I did and almost run phantom power to it. Luckily I read the precautions right before I plugged it in because this is the first ribbon mic I have ever owned. By the way the only reason I am giving this mic a 4.5 Overall is because of the cord being mounted to the mic instead of having a XLR connection. Handling it in and out the bag is aggravating but that's the only down side I find, and other than that it is the best thing I did for my voice yet.

I wanted to add a ribbon mic to my modest collection, and the price was right. It's become the go-to mic when I need to record flutes or violins. It gives the instruments a sophisticated depth in the mix.

I absolutely love this microphone, especially for the price. It is a very warm classical sounding microphone without the fuzz, very clear. Excellent for Vocalists that have a strong mid/high in voice, even works well for bass and bari vocals...

I've owned this mic for awhile now and is an excellent choice for those of us that are operating on a budget. I found it to be perfect for recording anything that has a bit too much high end (mandolin etc.) but yet still keeping a clear clean signal.

A Very Pleasant Surprise

I bought the RSM-2 as an inexpensive "experiment." Little did I know that this mic would be as versatile as it has been for me. For years, I've been searching for a decent, inexpensive mic that had a good frequency response that could be used for a variety of recording applications, and I've finally got that with the RSM-2. Out of the box, the lows are a tad washed out, but mids and highs are really crisp. I find it amazing that I've got all this versatility in a sub-$200 mic.

For my applications, I use the RSM-2 to record vocals and guitars (acoustic and electric), and in either application, it really delivers. Note: You need a pre-amp for this mic! The output is just too low for this to plug directly into a recording box. I use a Presonus TubePRE that not only boosts the sound, it also warms up the tone quite nicely (and cleans up the washed out lows that I mentioned above). As far as features are concerned, typical of this type of mic, the RSM-2 is heavy. Have a good stand on hand. The built-in cable is a bit dubious, and it seems a little on the cheap side, but it works just fine. You do have to be careful of putting the mic into its padded bag, though - the cable is not seated well to the mic body, and if you're not careful, it might just pull out (haven't done that yet, but I have loosened the seating collar. Not good).

Overall, I've found very little NOT to like about this mic. Granted, I'm not a recording engineer, but I've spent plenty of time around studios, and frankly, the sound it produces in combination with a decent pre-amp is stellar!
