Amazing Performance for $49!

I bought two of these to try out as front of house recording mics for various music groups, (mainly acoustic groups like jazz combos, big bands, concert bands and orchestras).

Along with the $19 shock mount I recorded a big band (4 trumpets, 3 trombones, 5 saxes and rhythm section) using these in a near-coincident array about 4 feet in front of the band. I engaged the bass roll off switch (you open the case to access it!) and got a really good "live" sound. In the studio, I tested it out on trumpet, trombone, bass trombone and various percussion getting very good results. I'm going to probably buy more of these to give me more mics for "accent" micing an orchestra or other large group.

Great Sax Mic

I bought a pair of these mics to use in my portable studio. I also have a selection of other mics (MXL, Shure, AKG & ElectroVoice). I normally use them for backing vocals since they have a nice warm tone without the strident top end present on some condensers. I've also used them to mic the body of acoustic guitar for the same reasons then balanced it with a small diaphram condenser for the lower neck. However, recently I had to mic an alto sax and I tried all the mics in my case that I thought would give good results and the SCM 900 gave the richest, most balanced sound out of all of them. I later used the mic on a live gig at a club where the sound man there had quite a few reservations about using a condenser mic on stage due to their sensitivity, but after hearing the SCM 900 he raved about the clean full sound and since this mic has a somewhat reduced high end freq. response (16,000 K) feedback problems were practically eliminated. If you are selective about what you use this mic for, it's a great mic for the price.

Great Mic, Great Price

I've used this mic many times when self-producing demos for my band. When recording my band, I try to make things sound as professional as possible, so I'm picky with sound quality. The quality of sound reproduction with this mic is outstanding. You can get better, but for a mic at this price, and with as good as the sound is, you can't get a better deal.

Unusual quality for the price...

I put this mic on a $25 shock mount, ran it thru the $30 ART pre-amp, used a pop filter and was simply blown away by the quality. I sing loud and this mic can take it well. You don't have to be poor to appreciate the price/quality ratio here! Very well done folks.

Nice all-purpose recording mic

I've had this Nady SCM 900 about two years and have put a lot of hours into it. Not the widest range mic out there, but it's a good, warm, natural sounding mic. I've recorded voice, acoustic guitar, upright bass and mandolin with it, all with good results.
