The Steinway D, Bechstein D 280, and Boesendorfer 290 Imperial grand pianos, plus the Steingraeber 130 vintage upright piano come together beautifully in Akoustik Piano. High-quality sampled sounds are expressive, precise, and very playable. Akoustik Piano covers the entire range of piano sounds and styles, transfusing the sonic characteristics and subtle tonal nuances of all 4 into your computer—the perfect complement for studios, rehearsal rooms, schools, stages and clubs.

Authentic Sounds
Akoustik Piano sets a new benchmark for sound quality, capturing the full body and feel of the originals with unprecedented authenticity. The latest recording technology and a specially developed microphone setup was used for all 4 pianos. The result is a uniquely warm, transparent and flexible sound that delivers the same distinctive character of each individual piano in exacting detail and can still be adjusted to meet specific needs.

Plays Easy
Akoustik Piano plays and responds exactly as real pianos do. The keys were sampled at varying velocities and great care was taken to capture the entire sustain and release phases. The innovative Layer Morphing Technology generates a seamless dynamic gradient. The characteristic resonances caused by use of the pedals can be adjusted, as can the subtle mechanical noises of the pedals and keys themselves. From perfect pianissimo to forceful fortissimo, this instrument delivers the same breadth and depth of tone as the originals.

Add sounds to a space
Akoustik Piano has a first-class integrated convolution module, allowing highly authentic spatial characteristics to be added to the sound. Place the piano in a studio, jazz club, concert hall, or a cathedral or use the dry signal as it is. The acoustic parameters of these spaces, such as the size, can also be manipulated. From the close mic setup of a jazz combo to the more ambient nature of classic solo performance, Akoustik Piano covers the whole spectrum.

Sounds great, but not without problems

I enjoy the pianos here quite a lot, and there's plenty of variation to choose from with some interesting editing options (lid position, mic distance etc). On sound quality alone I think this is a great package, although I actually prefer the sound of some of the old sample libraries (e.g., the Old Lady/Emperor) for what I do. I would strongly suggest that folks looking at this product visit the Native Instrument webpage and look at the various issues owners have had with Akoustic Piano though - there are some alarming comments posted in the forum area. That said, this is the only NI product I *haven't* had issues with: B4II and Elektrik routinely crash on opening in standalone mode, but apart from being a resource hog, AP hasn't given me any trouble.

I was surprised to find so many sub-par reviews on such an outstanding product and value. The Playablility was surprisingly smooth and expressive and the sound is crisp and solid in every range. With a Good Midi Controller you really couldn't ask for more for the price range that this thing fits in. The Samples are very well done and have a natural sustain and vibrato to them. you don't get that buzz as the sound fades out or the static sound of a stale sample. The low range is really impressive as it has good sound and is not too muddy or sloppy like a lot of samples can get. The mid is pretty, crisp and very usable.

This is a really nice set of pianos that is worth a look if you're looking for some soft pianos. Though I'm not sure it is better than Synthogy Ivory Software.

Don't jump on it. It's all hype.

The samples themselves are excellent, but the playability is well below par. First of all, they should be embarrassed providing a mere 50 notes of polyphony max -- there are Casio's with more. Then there's the unrealistic pedal response, which causes notes to suddenly cut out for no reason. And the dynamics are unrealistic. For example, there's no threshold minimum velocity for making a tone, so no matter how lightly you depress a note, a tone will be generated (and varying the velocity curve or dynamic response doesn't help). Basically, this software is great for hobbyists. But professionals should avoid it. You can get away with a lot of different music, but don't even think about playing Rachmaninov or Liszt or Debussy etc.
