With Guitar Rig 3 KONTROL Edition, you can work with a diverse group of setups, including 12 amps, 17 guitar and 6 bass cabs, 4 rotary speakers, and 9 microphones with adjustable positioning and 44 effects via your computer. This Native Instruments amp modeling software is great when you don't have space in your abode for several stacks and cabinets but still want to hear the array of tones your guitar or bass could produce if you did.

Note: All customers who purchase this product after 7/1/09 will receive a free downloadable update to Guitar Rig 4 Pro software, which will be released October 1.

An onboard studio-quality soundcard routes the signal to your speakers where the drag-and-drop rack format and enhanced preset management system allows you to discover what combination works best for your sonic needs. In fact, the newest incarnation of GUITAR RIG comes with a "Matched Cabinet" feature that offers tried-and-true, classic combinations of amps and cabinets so you spend more time playing and less time searching for that one tone. The software's Dynamic Tube Response Technology recreates the various amps, cabs, mics, and effects in exacting detail, delivering perfect custom tone in seconds.

Not only is the software quick and user-friendly, but with this edition you get a nifty piece of hardware for even more fun. The stylish RIG KONTROL 3 foot controller comes with eight switches and a sturdy pedal, giving you realtime control of any parameter within GUITAR RIG 3. The RIG KONTROL has also been redesigned with new coloring, labels, and I/O level meters with activity LEDs. It has a high-end audio interface integrated into it, featuring crystal-clear 24-bit/192kHz analog-to-digital converters. This makes all your GUITAR RIG 3 sounds more pristine, and yet its a tough enough foot controller and to survive in any studio or stage environment.

Speaking of the stage, the revamped user interface includes ultra-clear 'Live View' displays which provide gigging guitarists a bright view of the most essential assignments and parameters they'll need.

It was really nice to pick up a piece of hardware that shares the same passion for a nice electric guitar sound with me. Mixing and matching the different settings within the program has made my guitar mixes come alive. Whether it's a clean sound or an overdriven distorted sound this program has me covered. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to really improve the quality of their recordings.

There are many guitars, amps and software out there because not everyone likes the same thing when looking for "THEIR" sound. I bought GR3 having downloaded demos of Amplitube 2, PT Eleven, Peavey Revalver, Waves PRS and Line 6 Gearbox & Podxt Live. I recorded a guitar track on Pro Tools and then added each plugin to see the difference. Then using just my Pro Tools interface I played each in Standalone mode using Dynaudio BM5a monitors. Each had their unique attempts at models but I settled on GR3 because of realism and quality of sound. I use a Behringer amp with stereo two 12" Jensen speakers using slave mode, only using its power amp and speakers. This way it is not colored by the amp and its tone control and coloration. Since I own or have owned many of the amps these all simulate I find Guitar Rig 3 my best choice. If you want a genuine "TUBE" sound, buy a tube amp. Download the demos yourself and then you make the choice. Only you know the tone you like.

Guitar Rig 3 gets a bad rap from guys who swear by tube-only, vintage gear. Truth is, many people don't believe my tone comes from software. I think a lot of people are turned off by the software when they go through the factory patches. I was really dissapointed too. If you want really good, realistic tube-amp tones, you will need to sit down and spend some time setting up your own rigs. I have a YouTube channel with videos of me playing Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Vai, Eric Clapton and Van Halen covers, and I have a steady flow of comments and private messages asking me about my secret combo. There's no secret, I get all of these tones with Guitar Rig, and properly set up input / output gains etc ...

I found Guitar Rig 3 to be just ok. When compared to Amplitube 2...Amplitube blows this product out of the water with quality. Do yourself a favor and get Amplitube 2 you will be much happier. The quality of the normal effects for Guitar Rig 3 pales in comparison. Sure you can get a decent crunch from Guitar Rig but you will spend more time trying to find it with this product. I found the crunch to be even better using Amplitube 2. The only decent part about this product is the controller since I can use it with other software products. I just don't think it was worth it.

Very easy to use. Takes a little to figure out how to get the tones you want (i.e. disregard what most presets say they're supposed to sound like). This thing is perfect live if you have a good laptop (2 GHz dual core or better) or if you just plan to record at home. So many sounds I feel bad not using them all.
