Excellent compact field recorder

I used to carry a (much) larger Marantz PDM-671 for the many things I use a field recorder for (from recording our band playing live right off the mixer to capturing sound for video productions), and am amazed that this recorder (with the right adapters) will do everything the Marantz will do--just as well. An added bonus, these batteries last much longer. So, a tiny device that I can easily pack into a guitar case or video camera case will do everything I need it to do. It is reliable, and very intuitive to use. A great product.

Cutest little recorder
Posted by saxman from New York City area on Apr 17, 2009

This unit is small, cute, and very easy to use. I just got it today and played around with it immediately recording flute, voice, piano. I read many reviews on this and other units. The built in mics sound very good. I plugged in an expensive stereo Sony condenser mic and it wasn't much better than the built ins. Having multiple sampling rates is amazing. You can experiment with many different approaches to record and I can see that makes comparing units difficult. I also have a DAT and md recorder but this is so easy to use. As a professional musician I will find many uses for this "intsrument". Didn't try the software yet (cubase 4le) but I think that should be quite amazing in itself.

A great recorder in a smal package
Posted by Claudius from California on Feb 10, 2009
Experience w/product: I have heard about it

After receiving the LS-10 I almost sent it back. The instructions that came with it called it a "voice recorder". I didn't want a voice recorder. I wanted a recorder for voice, piano, organ, orchestra. I wanted a recorder for music.
I decided to test it at a church service. It rerorded a soprano hiting the highs loud and strong and the signal didn't break up at all. It
did great. I taped the piano playing the dificult and loud Rachmananoff concerto. It came out grate.
All were recorded in WAV. I love the camera CD card used to record. I bought an 8 Gig card and it'll last for hours of recording time, and does it well. The mics could use a little more bass response. There is one thing I wish it had, a remote control, because I'm always participating and would like to control it from where I am. Oh, I use a camera tripod as the recorder's stand. It can extend up to 6 feet high.

Olympus LS-10 Linear PCM Recorder
Posted by starkey from houston on Oct 23, 2008
Experience w/product: I own it
Reviewer's Background: musician
Reviewer's Play Style: old school
I have used the LS -10 for band practice by recording the practice and having the material [mp3's] to be learned already on the ls-10. It gets played back for review--band meetings -business meetings--- wildlife communication in a national park ----site recordings,ie oceans, airports, street corners, factories, corn fields --friends concerts ---verbal lists of things to do ---- live playing archives -and sometimes as a semi I-pod for on the road listening. The battery life is exceptional especially with lithium batteries. The LS-10 has an excellent learning curve & is easy to use. It also has a small thin body with an ez to read screen. I dont leave home without it.
