worth the preamps alone

I have been lusting after this board for quite sometime now and finally decided to drop the coin on it this year. I was $ well spent! My main reason for wanting it was the dual processor's which would allow me to gate all our mics as well as add dly/chrus to our vocal tracks without all the extra gear to haul around. I have tryed alot of different mixers in the past. For years I have used a behringer which I picked over a Mackie upon testing. We hooked this baby up at the last gig were literally blown away. The mic preamps are the cleanest I have ever heard and all the controls are super responsive. I ended up removing all the effects processing from the vocal channels and just leaving a soft compression with reverb on the vocals. The result was a sweet mix that you dream of. Everything cut through clearly and at basically what would be considered bedroom levels for most bands. I needed a great, dependable, workhorse of a live mixer and Peavey delivered. With the dual cpu's it may sound a bit intimidating to operate but it's actually very user friendly with presets for every effect that are very useful starting points.

Repaired Under Warranty, Still Rocks

Overall fine and affordable, brand-name unit that fits the top of my rolling rack with effects in one rack. I am using the Peavey 16FX to run sound occasionally for rock bands in local small and medium-size venues. Output fidelity is crisp, mic inputs very clean and no crosstalk. The bands appreciate being able to get 4 separate monitor mixes which I am running out of aux1-4. Note: purchased an inexpensive program for my home computer that lets me convert from 44.1kHz to 48kHz which is needed for USB playback to be at the correct speed. Problems: sent the unit back for factory repair under warranty after about 10 months due to L/R output cutting out as a result of a problem with fx1 unit/board, 1 of the channel faders also went bad. Both problems fixed under warranty and back in good order now. Some CPU limitations when trying to use resource-intensive fx/processing.

If you are looking to spend the money on a mixer, then you need to do your home work. After reading about alot of mixers, i had to go back to Peavey. I have used there gear for about 15 years for mixing sound, and this 16FX is buy far not trash. I can go on for hours about how great this thing is, but I realy can think of one bad thing to say about it after using it to mix live, and record with for over a year now.

Lots of features for the money, 2 eff channals, 4 pre balanced aux and 2 more post for the eff channels. While others have only 2 pre. Lots of stereo balanced bus routing. However the mp3 playing from USB is only possible at a low bitrade, otherwise it plays to fast and chipmunked. The CPU had processing problems playing mp3 while 2 effect where running. Not such a big deal for me, I want good live mixer. That what it is. The 1e eff channel had a big noise problem from the start. After I explaned the problem, Peavey send a new one in two days by UPS. Thanks to Peavey Engeland.

I have had this 16fx for about 5 months now, and I use it for everything. It plugs right into the USB jack in my PC, and works great with Adobe Addition. Its not Firewire, but along with good mic setings, and using the FX in the mixer.. Its a great thing to have. I use only Peavey PA gear, and always have.
