High-quality pres and pro-grade A/D conversion turn your laptop into a powerful recording rig.
The PreSonus AudioBox USB 2x2 USB recording system is an excellent solution for achieving high-quality, professional-sounding recordings no matter where you are. The AudioBox USB is a USB bus-powered audio recording interface loaded with 2 microphone/instrument inputs with 48V phantom power, 2 balanced TRS outputs, and MIDI I/O so you can stay portable without sacrificing your sound. The AudioBox USB also comes with Studio One Artist music creation and production software which has the same platform and intuitive interface as Studio One Pro but with an unlimited track count so you can start recording right out of the box.
PreSonus Audio has won numerous awards for designing quality microphone preamplifiers for all price levels. The AudioBox USB is loaded with preamps that deliver high headroom, low noise, and high gain to give you pure, full, and rich sound. Most USB recording devices operate at a 16-bit sample rate and use converters with dynamic ranges of less than 90dB which gives you a pinched and relatively small sound. The AudioBox USB, however, uses professional-grade analog to digital converters with a dynamic range of 102dB and 24-bit sample rate so that the digital conversion is big, quiet, and musical, making it one of the best sounding USB bus-powered interface on the market.
The AudioBox USB is bus-powered giving you the flexibility you need with no wall warts, line lumps, or power cables. Just plug in to a powered USB port and you are ready to record. The AudioBox USB is housed in an all-metal chassis with metal knobs able to withstand the rigors of travel and your touring adventures. Just toss the AudioBox USB in your laptop bag and mobilize your music creation and production. Whether you're recording your shows, creating a mix on the plane, or writing songs in your hotel room, the AudioBox is ready to go.

Alright so I've had this box for a couple years now. Works flawlessly with condenser mics. Don't use the SM57 for vocals with this, as the gain isn't high enough, but for medium to loud volume guitar it's fine. Sound quality is excellent; if you need a relatively low-cost interface for a microphone (condenser for vocals, dynamics for louder) then this will do fine. If you're thinking of plugging a guitar into this via the hi-z instrument input, you may run into sound levels clipping even at the input dial turned to zero (it does so by design). The way to get around this is to buy a DI (direct injection, aka Direct In) box that plugs via microphone cable into the XLR inputs of the Audiobox; problem solved. Still, I find this shortcoming unfortunate, that the instrument-in at dial zero isn't truly at zero. Also this box is plug-n-play on a Mac, very easy to use, and doesn't cause any crackling or anything, and the preamp noise levels are virtually silent. Plus it runs off USB power, which is good.

I was intially interested in this unit because of the inputs (XLR, 1/4", and MIDI). I had no idea that it could replace my PC soundcard! What a great unit this is! I have experienced no latency issues since using this unit (I do however run on a Quad Core PC with XP Pro). Nevertheless, I have used this unit with Record and ACID and the results have been great. With this unit, you can throw away you computer soundcard.

This is by far the best USB interface I've ever used. It kills any of the mbox crap. The preamps have plenty of gain even with a dynamic microphone. It's great that it is bus powered. Installed perfectly in minutes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Not nearly the quality I expected. I've owned other Presonus interfaces & was sure I would be just as happy with the Audiobox. Here's my problem. Hook a mic up & no prob. Crystal clear. Line level signal? (i.e. guitar, keyboard, etc.) Crap! I didn't realize I would get a constant overloaded preamp sounding fuzz. Believe me, I tried EVERYTHING & NOTHING worked. Made my recordings sound like garbage. Presonus technical support said "well if you're using a line level signal into a balanced input you'll experience some noise" WHAT?! I even tried balanced trs cables, but still got the same background noise. So, tech support, don't tell me this is normal because I've NEVER experienced this issue with ANY other interface. Wasn't my computer or software I can assure you. It was the Audiobox. You know what I did? Sold it & bought a Line6 UX2...cringe...but you know what? Freakin awesome buy that puts the Audiobox to shame. Nothing's more frustrating than low quality gear passing itself off as something it's not so I encourage you to do some homework & consider spending the extra 50 bucks. You won't regret it.

This is a great interface. I use Logic on my iMac and it works wonderfully! You will need an adaptor for the headphones, and there is no pre-equalizing; but hey, that's what mixing is for, right? This is a very durable interface (sadly have dropped it many times, but there is not even a scratch to show for it!) and you can have every port being used at the same time and it still kicks butt! Lovin' it! It comes with software too! (Cubase LE) This thing rocks!
