Great for on the Go

I use this only for voice-over recording on location. So far it seems to be reliable and sounds very clean. Good amount of gain make up. Presets are just that, presets and don't think because it says "keyboards", that that is your best choice. Looks very COOL! and stacks well with other Presonus mini gear. I also have the EQ4. Knobs feel very solid. May be rough if you have big fat fingers. For the $ and the portability, it is EXACTLY what I wanted and I do recommend it.

Presets are nice to get something up quickly. I use three of these primarily on pit band instruments for theatrical productions. Also have 24-channels of PreSonus ACP88. Only real complaint with these is of the three, two have had the meter lamps burn out within two years. Given that they are not used that often, the lamps should have lasted a lot longer.

Worked great for me

The unit appears to be well built. The switches are solid and of decent quality as well as the indicators. The unit is rather self explanitory to use, even for a rookie like me. Presets seemed fine for my limited use.

This compressor requires a preamp for microphones and has no phantom power. No big deal, I just bought a little tube preamp for the job with phantom power. I suspect the presets may not cover all situations in a more demanding environment, but it worked well for me. I have made several recordings on Fostex digital recorders and it cleaned up some the vocals and guitars. For people without much recording/sound experience (like me) it cuts out some of the learning curve and at least got me in the ballpark. Maybe I'll need something more impressive in the future, but I cant say that for now. All I can say is that as a rookie I can recommend it for ease of use and the quality is fine in my experience.

Good if the manual is read a few times...

I read the manual and it made a little sense... then i messed around with the unit briefly and went back to the manual. i now know everything this does and how to use it properly. i need to buy a pre amp though... this manual DOES say it will work with one, so i'm buying the tubepre cause same brand, and it has the phantom power... other than that, it has the presets which are cool for people like me who don't understand compression that much. i know what it does, just not how to tweak it for specific things. this does it for you. overall, worth the money.

Great at first

I really liked this unit at first. It has a great sound, and simple to use. It was very quiet too, though not so much as a good rackmount comp. Presets didn't bother me - I knew I was giving up some flexibility when I bought it, and in most cases the presets are useful enough. I do wish it had at least one "custom" setting to allow full control, but hey, no complaints.

As I said, sound is warm and clean. But 4 months into ownership it's developed a nasty hum that is so prominent I can't use it. That's why I knocked quality. If the hum wasn't there, this little guy would get solid 8s. When it's clean, it's really a nice sounding comp.
