I was skeptical about the firebox due to some very negative reviews. However, it seemed like the good outweighed the bad, so I went for it. It works like a charm; within a few days I was recording great quality sounding music to my computer with no headaches whatsoever. My advice: don't be stupid and just buy the extended warranty and then you don't have to worry if something goes wrong.

The Firebox Presonus is a very good interface for the price. I record guitar and voice and it's sound perfect. If you a mac user like me, this thing is very easy to use. You just plug it to your computer via firewire and that's it. Works well with cubase and garage band. Also, it won't take much space on your table... A very, very good buy.

I've had problems with this thing since I installed it about a year ago. The mixer software is poorly written. The box seems to randomly reconfigure itself for no apparent reason sometimes. I think it is buggy firmware. I've got the latest firmware and drivers, so...
I really wish they would make the mixer so it can be run from startup and load a particular configuration.
Sometimes the FIrebox will just stop producing sound and I'll have to spend a while chasing down the problem. I am a seasoned computer programmer and have been dealing with audio interfaces for the last 12 years or so.
I'll say this for it-- it looks sturdy. Fat lotta good that does me. Next time I'm going to get the M-Audio card. I'll stay away from Presonus stuff.

This is my first interface. I've only owned the box for about a week and I already kind of regret buying it, however im on a budget and i guess it'll do for now. As others have said the front preamps are way underpowered and you have to max out the gain for a decent level which leaves no headroom.. fortunately its pretty quiet even with the gain all the way up. However the line/instrument ports were giving me a lot of white noise when i connected my keyboard (with a balanced cable) or guitar.. and the ports on the back were coming in way too low for me so i can't use them at all. Finally, the light for the 48v button doesn't light up for me although it does still supply phantom power... kind of disappointed but i kind of expected it also.. just know what you'll be getting for your money..

Have owned this thing for well over a year, have used it frequently, the ONLY problem I've had with it is the preamps are a bit underpowered. If you're miking an amp, you'll really need to crank up the volume on the mic (or maybe the input level on the front of the interface? Not sure what adverse effect that would have) Doing a direct line-in through the 1/4" plugs on the back does pretty much remove this issue, though. Haven't tried a line-in with the XLR, though. I'm sure it would work just fine.
To the people saying that the "red light keeps coming on" all I can say is that try to get a better understanding of how it works, how it channels everything, etc. Honestly, when I turn on my computer, I have to turn on everything in a specific sequence (usually my monitors and screen first, before I flip on the tower) then I get audio with no hassle.
If you're wanting something that's more suited for home recordings (maybe if you're doing a solo thing?) then I'd say this is definitely for you! Beats having to spend an extra $200-400 on something else and get a bunch of other inputs you won't ever use.
