8 top-notch preamps matched to premium converters deliver the performance your music deserves!
The PreSonus FP10 FireWire recording interface (formerly known as the FirePod) is a complete 24-bit/96kHz recording system combining 8 high-quality PreSonus XMAX microphone preamplifiers with 24-bit/96kHz analog to digital conversion. The FP10 interface comes with the Studio One Artist music creation and production software which has the same platform and intuitive interface as Studio One Pro but with an unlimited track count. It also has SPDIF and MIDI inputs and outputs for convenient and compact, professional-quality, no-hassle recording. It also works with Mac OS X and Windows XP, Vista, and 7.
XMAX Class A preamps
The FP10's XMAX Class A preamps are custom designed by PreSonus. They run on power rails of 30V with no op amps, and are always in an "on" state for zero crossover distortion. This allows them to deliver high headroom with low noise sonic performance, wide dynamic range, wide frequency range, and, most importantly, musicality and transparency. This gives you smooth highs, solid, deep lows, without losing everything in between. It's perfect for recording diverse sources. Eight potentiometers are on the front panel to easily control the input level of each preamplifier.
Ins and Outs
Inputs one and two of the FP10 interface can be switched between microphone or instrument level while inputs three through eight can be switched between microphone or line input. Phantom power (+48V) is available on every channel in groups of four. Channels 1 and 2 feature fully balanced send and return TRS connectors on the rear of the rugged metal chassis for inserting outboard dynamics, EQ, and effects processors. There are 8 balanced TRS line outputs, 2 balanced TRS MAIN outputs, and CUE outputs for addtional monitoring. Using a stereo headphone output on the front panel, as well as mix control to balance monitoring levels between mixed input and main output signals, zero-latency monitoring is achieved. 2 channels of SPDIF input and output as well as MIDI input and output are also included. 2 FireWire ports make it possible to daisy-chain multiple FP10's together creating the possibility for adding additional inputs and outputs (with mic preamps) to your system.
Studio One Artist—Plus Over Gigabytes of 3rd Party Resources
The FP10 is bundled with an exceptional software package featuring PreSonus Studio One Artist DAW software for Mac OS X and Windows XP and Vista. It makes producing high-quality projects easier than ever before. As part of the Studio One Artist package, you get 20 new PreSonus Native Effects plug-ins and virtual instruments, and a generous bundle of third-party loops, software, and instrument sounds.

This thing works really well with really low latency and very easy to use. This is a warning, though it broke on me after 8 months but that is my fault for trying to make it a portable device. Thank goodness the customer support was really helpful giving a detailed instruction on how to make it work and eventually doing the same for repairs. Other than that the quality of recording from these things are pretty outstanding, considering I got it for $300 dollars scratch n' dent. The pre-amps are pretty good too. The midi n spdif are other cool features that allow you to be more flexible.

My 15 year-old son got this for Christmas of 08, and has been trying without success to set it up with his PC ever since. He has called and e-mailed the company about this on multiple occasions, and they have not returned calls or responded to his e-mails. This maybe a good product (at least with a Mac), but these guys really need to get their act together on customer support.

It's been great using the FP10 on a Mac Book Pro with Logic Pro. The front work with XLR cables or you can plug your guitars directly into these inputs as well, such a relief.
A handy thing to have with this is headphones for your whole band, couple audio splitters, and headphone jack extensions. Then you can record your band live using virtual amps. However if you want to use it to full capacity and record 10 simultaneous analog tracks you will need an adapter for the SPDIF. Trust me you will be stoked to have the two extra tracks. The most inexpensive adapter I found was the GefenTV Analog to Digital Audio Adapter. If anyone finds a cheaper one let me know, thanks!

I've owned the first version of this product (FirePod) for over four years. Purchased this for a replacement and have no complaints still. First one died only due to a really nasty power surge and I didn't have it plugged into a surge protector (ruined more than just my FirePod). Provides great sound quality and is great for beginners or pros. Easy to setup and use. Highly recommended!

I was just about to pull the trigger on an Alesis 24-track HDD recorder when I thought I'd give the FP10 a try. Recording a 4/5 piece blues band, I always found that I ran out of tracks on my 8 track Alesis ADAT - I needed at least 12 tracks. So, as a cost-effective alternative to the HDD, I bought 2 FP10s.
The sound quality is superb, the build quality is the best and they induce little to no latency, even when monitoring. A gripe I have with the units is that it took a lot of experimentation to figure out how to make the whole system work consistently. I have to connect the FP10s together, connect them to the computer, turn on the FP10s then boot up the computer. Only then will the system recognize both FP10s. I can imagine that Presonus couldn't anticipate every permutation with computer and software, so you have to be patient and try every combination until you get it right.
Another gripe is that the Cubase software is rather difficult to set up in a live situation. I'm sure I'll get used to it over time, but it would have been better for Presonus if they bundled an app that did nothing but record the tracks. With Cubase, you have to set up a multitrack editing session to record from the FP10s and I don't use Cubase for my editing - I use Audition.
Still, a fantastic product and I have nothing but praise for the features, quality and price.
