The PreSonus FaderPort puts feel, vibe, and efficiency back into computer recording and production. No more clicking through menus and drawing automation edits with a mouse. It is the first of its kind, a single-fader USB controller that can write single and group channel volume, pan and mute automation. The FaderPort features a high-quality, 100mm motorized ALPs long-throw fader with the feel needed for recording perfect fades and writing automation in realtime. A dual-servo motorized drive belt system makes automation smooth and precise while 1024-step resolution lets you write ultra-fine, accurate fades and adjustments.

Perfect addition to a project studio

I picked this up primarily to get away from "mixing by mouse" and I have been blown away by how well this unit functions. I'm using mine with Logic 8 - setup was a breeze and the unit mapped immediately to my DAW. The motorized fader is smooth, with a nice tight feel, the buttons are backlit and solid to the touch. My only area of concern was the rotary knob - compared to the fader & buttons, the knob felt a bit wobbly, but again, it is very reliable and smooth when making adjustments to automation. I'm very pleased with my purchase and as usual, Presonus has delivered another great product for the recording musician on a budget.

Before this I had NO way to change my volume between OFF and HIGH.. this item allows you to actually CHANGE the VOLUME of the thing you're recording!! Both up.. AND DOWN!! A steal for the price!!! Best volume knob EVER!!

Once I knew about the Faderport existence, I give it a try, and bought it without testing it first. I have been using it with Protools on OS X since the last 4 months, and I can tell you this is a great way to mix and record as it has to be done: WITHOUT THE MOUSE, and with the feel of a fader, closing my eyes and opening my ears, just listening to the music... for the price and the usefull it is, I recommend it... it's very precise to fine-set the fader levels, and it brings some other functions you CANNOT do with only the mouse... 4 eg, you can adjust fader levels WHILE you're BOUNCING TO DISK the mix!!! so, I've spoken...

Generally speaking this a very good piece of gear. The build quality is solid, the fader is smooth and will likely hold up well over time. The other controls/buttons also have a solid feel to them, and are laid out in a convenient and user -friendly manner on the control surface. In short, it does what it is supposed to do, and is exactly what it is advertised as: a high quality single channel control surface.

I gave it 4.5 stars for "Features" and 4.0 stars for "Value" because for $199 you only get a single channel. Of course I was completely aware of this when I ordered it from MF, but there are a few models of control surfaces out there now such as the Tascam FW-1082 that sell for around $599, and give you 10-channlels, etc.

I only had need for a single channel device (and indeed only had the desktop real-estate in my studio for a single channel anyway!). I am quite happy with it. Therefore, if a single channel device suits your needs, and you have no need (or space) for more channels, the Faderport is a perfect solution.

NOTE: if you want to use this with Sonar, it only works with Sonar 6, and the driver needs to be downloaded from the Presonus website. Repeat - out of the box, the device is NOT ready to use with Sonar, and only works with Sonar 6.

The Faderport is very useful and well made. It works flawlessly with MOTU Digital Performer 5. Set up was very easy and the unit has a zero learning curve, if you are used to mixer automation. I would have liked the buttons to have been a bit larger, the pan know could used a center indent and a painted indicator line, although I know the knob is an 'endless' type. The unit does but the feel back into mixing and makes you rely on your ears more than your eyes, which is great. If you have a small project or home studio I would consider this a sound investment.
