Wow, it's been nearly 2 years since I bought this unit and it is still performing beautifully. I've considered upgrading to an M-Audio 2626 for Pro-Tools compatibility a couple of times, but after actually working with one in another studio I was a bit bothered by the startlingly lower build quality of the unit. And I still haven't found a compelling enough reason to part with my Firepod.

I upgraded to Cubase 4 studio and have a rack full of outboard gear. I'm utilizing all 10 outputs and all 8 analog inputs of the firepod, and have been wanting to buy another one for a while now. Even when being used up to it's full capacity, it performs without a hitch! I'm amazed that the price has come down so much also. I got mine for 500 a couple years ago, and that still seems like a perfectly reasonable price considering that capabilities of this unit.

THe reason I give it a 4 for features is the lack of any ADAT. You have to step up to the firestudio for that functionality. Also, the digital inputs require an external clock source, meaning you can't use them with digital effects units such as the Lexicon MX200 (which I am using). As a result, I use the digital out on the firepod, then bring the reverb back in using the analog ins on the firepod. It's a little irritating, but is really a minor inconvenience.

Let me start off saying when I first bought the FirePod I thought it was a good product. It had lots of inputs and good preamps. However, 3 months later my unit broke (wouldn't sync) and I had to send it in to get fixed. Where I had to wait a month or so to get it back. I've have to go though this process every 3 months. It's a good product when it works, but only expect it to work for 3 months at a time. Presonus' customer service is also not the greatest, were I'm waiting day to hear anything back.

The firepod is the perfect way to start your home studio. Along with a good powerful computer and really good mics, you can have a professional sounding mix of whatever you want to record. It is very confusing to get the program cubase le 4 if you've never had any backround in recording software, but the program has a full manual inside it, showing you how everything works.

I purchased 2 Firepods and have been running them without a hitch or burp. My current band has 2 MOTU 896HD's and can't get them to sync and stay sync'd with a computer 10x more capable than mine. The sound that I get with My Firepods is far more dynamic and clear compared to the MOTU's too! Sure the MOTU's have more options but if they aren't options you are going to need who cares! I have been nothing but ecstatically pleased with these units. Not only do you save a load of money by buying these over the more expensive all-in-one recording interfaces but it sounds better and works correctly too! What's not to like? Buy one or two or three of these and save the money to spend on some good mics to capture the sound correctly.

I've been using two Firepods for about a year, and I've been able to record all 16 tracks at once with no problems that couldn't be remedied. Had a slight latency issue, until I READ THE MANUAL and figured it out! I get very clear, punchy tracks using Adobe Audition. It's not the most sophisticated setup, but it does the job for me, and does it very well. I would buy these units again without hesitation.
