Gives you professional I/O options, integrated mixing, and Class A preamps.
The FireStudio from PreSonus is a 26-in/26 out FireWire recording interface loaded with 8 of PreSonus' acclaimed mic preamps. It has MIDI, S/PDIF, word clock, and ADAT (dual SMUX) I/O plus a 36x18 DSP matrix routing mixer. Firestudio also gives you up to 26 simultaneous inputs and outputs. Combined with the speaker volume and mix control of the optional Monitor Station Remote (MSR), it gives your studio advanced digital capabilities.
You can easily think of the FireStudio as the big brother to the award-winning FirePod with more I/O, and adding the MSR (Monitor Station Remote) really upgrades your setup. The MSR is a complete surround-capable desktop remote control that gives you the ability to switch between Track, Mix, and Surround modes, as well as a talkback, dim, mute, mono, and dual headphone amplifiers. Track Mode delivers nine stereo mixes for monitoring in headphones during tracking, Mix Mode allows the user to switch between three sets of stereo monitors, and Surround Mode enables 5.1 surround control for mixing in surround sound. See the Recommended Accessories box below to add the MSR to your FireStudio order.
FireStudio includes Cubase LE, and the PreSonus ProPak—over 2GB of plug-ins, drum loops, and samples.
Note:As of 5/26/09, you can make your FireStudio 64-bit compatible via a PreSonus web update.
I've had a Firestudio for almost 2 years. If your lucky enough to get it working with your setup, thats great. The drivers are released with all kinds of bugs and the company's tech support is the worst I've ever experienced. The preamps are OK, but what do you expect from a unit that costs what it does and includes 8 preamps. Spend a few bucks more and get a Steinberg MR816 (especially if you use Cubase), RME, or MOTU.

Just make sure you download the new driver from their site. I'm so glad they finally came out with this driver. It took about 10 minutes to be up and recording. The preamps are extremely nice sounding. Now I'm thinking about adding a Digimax FS to make it 16 inputs. Not so wild about Cubase. That's why it didn't get a perfect score. But it works with basically everything out there.

I have a small project studio and bought this last year, but I didn't end up using it with my old setup. A few months ago I built a new PC specifically for audio work and hooked this baby up. I find that it's perfect for my needs.
I can mic up an entire drum kit or record 3-4 musician's at a time with no problems, and the sound quality with my Audio-Technica mics is great. Even an SM57 sounds great, and recording bass and guitar direct through this is much better than it ever was through the M-Audio Delta series I had forever.
Now that it's even cheaper, I'd say this is an excellent value for the money. Sure it's not a super high-end unit with the greatest A/D converters and preamps like you'd find in a pro studio, but it's a decent piece of kit for home use.
My only complaint was that I was forced to stay with XP 32-bit to use this, but now that Presonus have just released a beta driver for 64-bit I'm psyched to try this out with Vista and release the full potential of my machine.

I'm sorry to report that after I purchased the firestudio I found out that it is not compatible with windows vista 64 bit OS...so it sits here at the house waiting for the patch to come out from presonus, so I can use it. I'm hesitant to buy anything studio software related at this point.
