Propellerhead Reason 3.0 has it all: synthesizers, sequencing, samplers, drum machine, ReCycle-based loop player, mixer, effects, pattern sequencer, and more. As many of each as your computer can handle. Reason is an infinitely expandable music workstation and version 3.0 introduces the Combinator—a sophisticated software device that allows you to build elaborate chains of Reason units— and save as them as patches.

Reason 4 Beta announced by Propellerhead Software!

Propellerhead Software and Line 6 are offering a Grace Period Upgrade for those who purchase Reason 3.0 now!

Any customer who purchases Reason 3 from an authorized Line 6 dealer on or after June 1, 2007, is automatically eligible for a free upgrade to the corresponding version of Reason 4 software*. Details and forms for submitting proof of purchase information (including original receipt and UPC code) will be made available when Reason 4 ships. There's no need to wait for Reason 4—you can get Reason 3 today and Reason 4 for free when it ships. A release date for Reason 4 has not been announced.

Less fuss, more freedom

As a Reason user, you can forget about the downside of music production. Forget malfunctioning modules and confusing connections. Reason's cables don't tangle. Forget about steep learning curves and menus within menus. Reason is so direct you'll learn it in minutes. And forget the tedious process of gathering all the different disks and soundbanks needed to load up a song.

Stellar sound

The audio quality is everything you would expect from the people behind ReCycle and ReBirth. But pristine sound quality is only half the story; the instruments and effects in Reason are loaded with character and attitude. Reason will not just impress, it will inspire you.

All controls work as their real-life counterparts

Each unit in Reason's virtual rack is edited from its own onscreen front panel. All the sliders, knobs, buttons, and functions are right in front of you, ready to be tweaked, turned, and twisted in absolute real time. And all your front-panel actions -— filter adjustments, pitch bending, gain riding, or panning -— can be recorded and automated in the Reason sequencer.

Need more gear?

In Reason, you will never run out of rackspace. No problem. Choose a synth, a drum machine, a loop player, or any device from the Create menu and it will instantly appear in your rack, logically patched into the signal chain. And because Reason is designed to go easy on your computer, you can repeat the process until you're more than happy. If you ever wished you had eleven samplers and ten compressors, Reason is definitely for you. And if you have created more machines than you have mixer channels, just create another mixer.

What's new in 3.0?

For big, tight, loud-sounding tracks; extra stereo width; increased clarity; and punchier bass; meet MClass, the new mastering suite in Reason. 3.0. MClass brings you four separate pro level mastering units designed to add power, presence, and an overall professional feel to your Reason mixes.

Play your Reason system!

Coupled with the Combinator, the new features in Reason 3.0 -— a fresh sound library, an enhanced browser, and the new Remote protocol —- turn your rack into a very live-friendly, playable instrument.

True hardware integration!

With the Reason 3.0 browser, the task of finding and loading sounds and patches becomes just as smooth and intuitive as the process of making good music in Reason. Reason's sound palette is getting bigger, better, wider, and wilder. The new sound bank in Reason 3.0 adds huge quantities of instruments, sounds, and patches to Reason's already massive library. Focusing on carefully sampled musical instruments and useful Combinator setups rather than loops and beats, the new soundbank takes a more playable, more performance-friendly direction.

Line mixing, Combi mixing or regular submixing?

Leave it to Line Mixer 6:2 -— a simple but effective 6-channel stereo line mixer. Built primarily for use in the Combinator, the Line Mixer 6:2 handles basic mixing and panning of Combi devices, but can of course be inserted anywhere in Reason. Use it for submixing large drum kits or to add extra mixer channels when Reason's main mixer is starting to fill up. Each of the six channels features level and pan controls and mute and solo buttons plus an AUX send level control. Need more sends? Extra channels? Just create another Line Mixer.

I have been using reason since 2.0. I have created a lot of tracks with reason. All in all I am happy with it and it is good for someone starting out. The sound quality isn't the best and the fact you can't use it with your vst's to me is junk. If you are creating music on a professional level you'll have to spend studio time pumping it up which can get expensive. Reason has been good to me over the years but now I am over it and am moving on to Logic. For people starting out this is great.

It's such a toss-up with Reason. On one hand, it's so simple to instantaneously make a song on the fly within minutes because of the great sounds and ease of use. On the other hand, you feel like you have a ceiling over you since it can't compete with software like Ableton Live.

Notice, folks: Reason does not play well with others! At least if you're thinking VST instruments. No native support for them, but through rewire [again, requiring something like Cubase or Ableton, after you've blown like $300 for Reason!] you can get them to be friends. But seriously, Reason 4 won't even have VST hosting. This is preposterous. It prevents it from being truly professional [like having a crapload of great vst instruments and effects, and having to use them separately].

All in all, it's great for live performances and quick composition, but JUST falls short of being the be-all-end-all of software composition workstations. I use this, Sibelius, and Fruity Loops pretty liberally. You might have to as well.

This software is a beast, the effects along are killer. I recorded a song through Audacity then sampled it through Reason's NN-XT sampler and added effects and mastering. That's not even the sound library, or the advanced sequencer this beast has. If I tried to explain everything reason does, I would have to write a manual.

Ive been using Reason for 5 or 6 years now, and I'm ashamed to say I hardly ever touch my room, litterally full, of synths. Mainly because Reason is so damned easy to use and has unlimited patches and samples. I find myself creating and using my own patches and samples more than anything, but it does have plenty of factory sounds for people just getting into the software. The sound quality leaves something to be desired in my opinion, but its certainly usable and I have used it almost exclusevely on many, many recordings. Rewired into Cubase or Sequoia is how I normally use it. This is by far the best overall all in one "soft synth" in my opinion. Ive gotten tons of mileage out of this stuff. Just wish it also allowed audio recording!

The BEST Sequencer out there!!!

Ok, I got Reason 3.0 for Christmas and was able to write songs within hours. I've never been so inspired to write music. This is the best sequencer production software on the market. The sounds are incredible, there are tons of great refills and loops you can get in addition to Reason's Mega Sound Library. I can write music in any style you'd like. I'm a Rock guitar player and use Reason to write all my backing tracks (Drums; bass, keys & FXs)... this software does so realistic that all my friends who are drummers ask me who the great drummer is on my recording....I say "Reason 3.0". BUY IT NOW!!! Don't waste our money on other stuff. This is GREAT!!! The rewire funtion is superb. I use ReWire to conect Reason to Cubase and it works like a champ!!!
