Bought this mic 3 yrs ago and have been using it for my current project. Took it into my producer's studio and insisted on using it, along with the UA 6176 that I brought in. He has now fallen in love with the combo...to the point that he refuses to give them up!!! But I've told him from the beginning, that these were not available for 'time in the studio' trade. That's how good the combo is!

I've owned this mic for two years now and it is wonderful. You do have to follow your chain with good equipment for great results, have some recording know-how and what you feed your mic has to have quality in order to hear quality at the end. If that sounds like something you can do then this is a mic for you. Yes it will enhance your recordings. This is a quality piece of gear. Buy it and enjoy.

First of all...you need to have a really good preamp to make any mic sound good. I have a UA 6176 pre/compressor...and wow! Together with my K2...my music went from obvious home studio to...hey that sounds pro! Great for vocals and acoustic instruments! Pay the extra couple of hundred dollars to upgrade to this mic...sounds as good as some $2,000 mics.

I got this mic about 8 or 9 months ago, and from the first recording I did with it I knew it was one of the best mics I've ever heard. Ever now and then I get the chance to record in very nice studios, and when I do I am adamant about using this mic for all male vocals, acoustic guitars, and drum overhead. A lot of engineers think I'm crazy at first, but I tell them to grab their best mic and put them back to back and see which one sounds best... its mine. I really wanna venture into the world of stereo mic'ing with good large diaphragms so I'm getting another one. I will have this mic for the rest of my life, and I'll leave it in my will for a grandson or something.

I don't get it. I've used other Rode microphones with great results, but not this one. First of all, it doesn't even sound like a tube mic. Having used the Rode NTK on several occasions, I was hoping for something similar but with adjustable patterns. No such luck, the NTK and the K2 don't even sound related. There is no warmth at all. There's not much low end. The only thing I could hear were the upper mids. As a matter of fact, this is the worst vocal microphone I have ever sang through. In the microphone's defense, it sounded very good on acoustic guitars, but I have several less expensive mics that sound just a good. I had another singer test the mic out who had better results with a stylized 90's alternative type vocal. I'm more of traditional singer and it didn't work for me at all. In conclusion, if you're looking for a classic sounding tube mic with characteristics similar to recordings from the 60's and 70's, this isn't the one. Buy the Rode NTK instead.
