This mic and my Audix i5 see so much use when recording it's rediculous. I pull the NT1000 out for almost everything. I got it for a good price with a Presonus studio channel preamp and with some soft compression dialed in the two make everything sound sooooo nice. I've experienced no need to EQ at all for vocals (maybe a slight roll off in the highs, this mic has a LOT of presence so you may expect to use a desser) Yet somehow with having such a bright sound it has a very warm tonality on guitar amps, I've gotten the best results putting the NT1000 mixed with an i5 on guitar cabs. The crisp sound is great for micing acoustics as well or cymbals. Pretty much the only thing I don't use this for is group shouting parts in rock and metal songs, I use an omnidirectional for that. And that is in fact the only thing this mic lacks, and omni and figure-8 polar pattern, I'd change nothing else. It is heavy as can be, you can really feel the quality just holding it in your hand. This is one purchase you won't regret.

This mic has been in my locker for 5 years and I keep going back to it. I was shopping for new mics and saw this one still standing proud. I have used it relentlessly on vocals in the home studio though it also offers a pleasant warmth when capturing one of my accousitics from about 2.5 feet offset. Great mic! If you do not have one in your arsenal, make sure you add it!

Dare I Compare to the German Mics?

How do you begin to talk about a microphone that has now proven itself to me. I do not give my positive reviews easily. I think SM57 mics are nice on stage but don't cut the cookies in the studio. There is just simply a lack of repsonse from the microphone in the high registers. So, no need to compare them there. The NT1000 is far better obviously to anyone who has used many different types of Microphones. In a top end pro studio I recorded in awhile back I used 2 top end German Condensor mics to record flute. They were great, no doubt, but I asked the engineer what they cost and he just smiles...yeah...several grand...I thought I would never own anything to rival this expressive type of microphone. Those German Mics (Nue-who?) are truly great products but they cost so much. What is a layman to do? Get a Rode! I dare to say, this microphone is as good or better than any of those I have tried. I would love to name them, but I think you know what brands I am referring to and what mics I am talking about. Thank you Rode! My microphone has arrived! What sweet range, and if you use a nice warm pre-amp with a tube, well, it gets even better for instruments. No more sharp tinny sounds. You will die when you hear this one. There is nothing more to live for, this is the microphone for the next decade.

Long time user of this great mic.

I've been using this microphone for years. I A/B'd it with an NTK for vocals, and the NT1000 won hands down. This has given me countless awesome vocal takes and has done a pretty good job on acoustic guitar as well. Regarding Rode as a company, great people... Not too long after I first got this mic, I had an unfortunate microphone stand accident where the stand fell in the studio, wailing the NT1000 against the floor. It really is built like a tank, cause there wasn't a scratch, but internally something was damaged because the sound would occasionally cut out. I called Rode's customer service, and with little or no todo, they told me where to send it, I sent it out, and they sent it back pretty quickly good as new. Thanks Rode!

RODE NT1000

Great all-around mic for the money. I own four of these and have never experienced any problem what-so-ever. Used for basic acoustic guitar and vocals. Don't forget what goes in goes out - including using a good preamp and mic'ing techniques.
