I have tried Audix and the legendary Shure58 and I have to say the E835 blows them out of the water!! It has great power and great bass response and clarity. Overall it make mics in its price range sound flat!! I use it for lead and back vocals from behind my drums.

I'm a house sound guy at a club that hosts mostly local, but some B-level artists. I have available in the club SM58s, B58s, Senny 835, 935, 865, and more.
People rant and rave about this thing being better than a 58. It seems like a 'cleaner' sounding mic at first, because you hear the 2k peak which helps with speech intelligibility. But getting someone singing into it and you'll miss the meaty low midrange of your 58. Get one of those instead. Check out the polar plots on the manufacturer's website and you'll also see it's a feedback nightmare. You do not want to have one of these on a small stage, which is where a mix in this price range will end up.
A 58 is a better choice, but personally I'd save up and get a 935 which is a great mic.
I've got my $15 worth of use out of it (garage sale) but that's about it.

Well I have always been an SM58 user and, probably will continue to be but, I just received this e835 and, gave it a try at rehearsal last night and, I have to say I was very impressed. Each mic no matter what the manufacturer has it's own characteristics and, response patterns but, you definately won't go wrong if you purchase this unit. I can see that at times I will go for this mic depending on how the SM58 performs. The construction, looks and, feel of this mic are outstanding! It most certainly has a different pickup pattern than the sure and, I have to say it sounds a little more crisper on the high end also, good proximity up close but no muddiness either. If you are looking for a second mic or just a backup to have on hand or maybe this is the different sound you've been looking for, you will not be dissapointed.

I have to say,I never understood the hype about the SM-58. I A/B'd it with an Audix OM-2, and the Audix was noticably better. I have been using Audix OM-3's & OM-5's for a few years. I have never been 100% happy with them, but they were noticably better than SM-57'/58's by far. This inexpensive 835 makes the Audix mics sound like there's a blanket over them. It's so much clearer and defined! If you have feedback issues, it's because you did'nt bother changing your EQ settings before switching to the 835. Have some common sense, not all mics have the same frequency response, so they should not use the same EQ curve!! By far superior to the Shure and Audix mics!

I am a worship leader at a church in Oakland County, Michigan as well as a live sound/studio engineer so I have experience with a very wide variety of microphones for many different applications. I spec'd this mic for lead and bg vocals in my worship team, when it came time to upgrade our mics, based on reviews, specs, and past experience with Sennheiser products. I must say, it did not disappoint! As for comparison to the standard SM58, I can't say since I haven't made a direct A/B comparison. What I can say is that the vocals are very powerful and clear with very minimal EQ. I have had zero issues with feedback, although we don't run our monitors extremely loud and I know how to place the wedges for maximum gain before feedback. In conclusion, for the price and performance, I would highly recommend this microphone for anyone looking for a solid performing, great sounding vocal microphone!
