I purchased this mic for kick drum, upright bass ambient and bass cab. I've used the leading AKG and Shure kick mics, they're both very good. This one is easier to work with, ergonomically, and it also is just a tad less murky, if that makes sense.

This mic is also great for vocals, believe it or not. Especially as a second mic in a stereo configuration with a condensor on figure 8.

When micing the bass drum on my kit i've noticed it has no attack/punch. It picks up 30hz-90hz really well but no midrange and lots of high end. I would use it for a second mic to add more low end to the kick but not my favorite first choice.

Finally; a kick mic that not only handles low frequencies, but mids and highs with high clarity. Sounds like a much more expensive mic. Makes the D 112 sound like a muddy mess.

This thing just flat out does the job. Short story, band I recorded, the drummer played uber fast blast beats, lots of very quick bass drumming. Problem, it was on a single bass drum (Tama swingstar) a new powerstroke 3 head somved most of the problem but the mic was just not picking up the individual strikes. This sucker 4 inches from the batter head, problem solved. Everything you could want in a bass drum mic for any application. Side note, it's my new go to mic for bass cabs as well.
