I gig very frequently, mostly to crowds of around 100 people or less. in most all of my shows, i use my Taylor NS42 (which i usually plug into the PA), Mandolin, and Banjo. as a multi-instrumentalist, this thing ROCKS. it's like a sm57 but better and more responsive, with less feedback. on vocals it kills an sm58 side by side. this is your do everything improved workhorse microphone; mine has been used thoroughly and i am more than pleased. mics guitar cabs exceptionally well; all that there is left to do is break out the harmonica; something tells me i won't be disappointed.

I have owned this microphone for about 2 years now and have had nothing but good luck with it. I use it mostly when I am micing Instruments I have used it a couple of times for vocals when I have been in a bind with out a Vocal Mic. Nothing but good crisp clear sound every time I use it.

I recently bought a Shure Beta 52 for my bass rig. I had a couple people recomend the 57, but my hard-headed butt went with the 52. Well, twice now, I have been proven the fool. Once at a a bar my band played, the house sound guy put a 57 in front of my SVT 810. He explained the house can handle the low end, and the 57 is better for letting the mids through. He was right. Last week when we went into the studio, the producer also used a 57. Wow. I've just bought a 57. Should have listened from the beginning. The beta 52 is nice, but only if the lows are all you want.

We use these microphones for live performances as guitar amp mics. These things have great off axis rejection seeing as they are super-cardioid. Isolates the amp very well. Very good investment.

This mic is great, if you're not recording an amp. On amps, it some how manages to let only the high's leak through. I can't get a smooth overdrive sound. Personally, I think the audix i5 sounds better. For guitar amps that is; audix i5 is better than the sm57 and beta hands down for overdrive. sm57 is good for cleans and it pickups up decent overdriven tones when it's off axis. getting to this mic it's fantastic to record acoustic guitars and snares. it makes the snare really sit in the mix live and in the studio. as for acoustic, this mic does a fantastic job for guitar, even as a solo mic to use. I've used this mic to record a takamine EG series on the 12th fret and got great results! I now use it with a Neumann TLM-103 (at 12th fret) and place the beta at the sound hole (crazy right?) just make sure you cut some lows on the beta if you do it. it pickups up nice clear tones.
