Lots of hiss, No Sustain

After reading the reviews here, I decided to give it a shot and purchase the Shure PGX14 Guitar Wireless System, despite what I had read. All of what I read was unfortunately true. As soon as I hit a chord, I could immediately could notice a slight difference in tonality. Their was barely any sustain when holding a note. The notes died almost immediately. Their was a loud hissing with my amp turned up only a little. I play Extreme Metal and notice that their is some sort of built in filter that takes away from the original feel of the notes as opposed to not using the wireless. You also have to align the frequency every time you put the transmitter on mute. They say it is a mute, however it works more like power switch because you have to realign the transmitter with the receiver every time it is put on mute. This seems tedious at a gig that you only have a few minutes to set up at. I decided to take it back and just go back to the cable.

Nice sound, but no sustain!

I got this as a Christmas present, but after using it a few times, I am taking it back. I was impressed with the frequency response...nice and clear. But the sustain is terrible! I hit a chord, and after about a second, it dies out. I thought it might be something else in my setup, but when I went back to a chord with the same conditions, the problem went away. So if you want good fidelity at an affordable price, then this is the unit for you. However, if you want your notes to hang in the air for a little while after you play them, then stay away from the PGX14!

Not all it's cracked up to be....

I wanted a good quality, well performing system that could replace my cables and free me from my leash.... What i got with this Shure system was an excellent quality, high performing system with some kind of annoying Automatic noise gate thing that killed the sustain on my guitar, even when using a compressor/sustainer. Traded it in at the music store for an Audio-Technica Freeway system. Much happier with the adjustable gain on the AT. It was very easy to setup and use, but Shure, if you'll make the gate adjustable, you'll have it whipped!

My band has 3 and we love them. We have them all rackmounted and we are very pleased with the tone quality and range of this unit. The only flaw is the body pack does not have a display to show the life of the batteries. Besides that, great item!

Great Entry / Mid Level wireless system

Having switched to a wireless system from using monster cables (amidst trepidation of losing tonality), I must say, this unit has impressed me quite a bit. Setup was a breeze, tone remains rock solid (well...almost)...because, you will lose a small amount of bass/body in the process..but barely noticable unless you're jamming by yourself ....to a wall.

I did find that the three gain settings, 0 db, +10 db, and -10 db on the wireless transmitter is best if left at 0db, but you can juice it up by adding more gain, but you might want to reduce some gain on the preamp side or the distortion drive side to prevent the sound from getting too hot and sounding sterile. The battery life is about 8 hours (of playing) as the manual says...so keep a pack o duracells ready.

Over all, a great product, and comes with a moderately solid carrying case with it as well.
