Shure SM10A-CN Headset Mic

I use this mic daily as a dj on RadioNC Online. It performs perfectly in this application. This mic was designed as low a impedence mic so you use it very close to your mouth. If you do not use a sound mixer this may not be the mic for you as a mixer allows you raise and lower the gain to increase mic input volume. You can't plug it into an amplifier socket and expect it to be loud or function properly. This is a common mistake made by many. Shure does make an inline amplifier to preamp the mic so it can be used without a sound mixer board.

I just got this and wanted it to free me from having to stand in front of the mic stand. Very good quality, secure fit, very adjustable. It sounded pretty good. I compared it with my sm58 and it sounded very similar, maybe 1/3 to 1/4 weaker. The only draw back (a plus for drummers) is that you have to have it very near your mouth, I got the best results when it was barely touching the corner of my lip. On the plus side it can handle the mixer at full strength without feed back and doesn't pick-up surrounding noise. Hope this helps.

Not what I expected

My first time using it (and only time), the boom mic would pivot, and spin almost freely, or without much budge. This thing is just not made well for singing drummers.

The belt clip barely can hang onto a belt buckle, and I'm also too afraid that if the microphone xlr strips or rips out, then I will be out the entire mic.

It would also be nice to have a onboard on off switch, but I'm not complaining (you get what you pay for).

Finally, the sound.. it was great, but I just was too disappointed in everything else to enjoy it.

I have the SM12A which is almost exactly the same as the SM10A. I have had great experiences with this mic. Took me awhile to figure out ear monitor. Could hear my breathing a little too much.

I just got this mic and it is awesome!!! Am lead singer and use it with the AKG WMS40 wireless and it rocks!!! Read the other reviews and was kinda worried, but it really performs well. Had to turn up the low end a bit because it is a smaller mic ... but the mic was actually hotter than the SM58 I use. You do have to follow the directions and have the mic within 1/2" of your mouth. The band was very happy with the performance. Best of all ... no more feedback problems.
