The Shure SM48-LC Microphone offers many of the same qualities as the famous SM58 but at a lower price. This unidirectional dynamic mic is designed for professional sound reinforcement, studio recording, and broadcasting. It maintains a true cardioid pattern throughout its frequency range, ensuring high gain before feedback and rejection of off-axis sound. Frequency response is tailored for vocals with a presence rise in the midrange to brighten performance. A low-frequency roll-off is provided for controlling proximity effect. A shock-mounted cartridge, steel mesh grille, and an integral pop filter make the Shure SM48 tough and resistant to handling noise.

Shure SM48-LC Vocal Microphone Features:

  • Cardioid pickup pattern rejects off-axis sound and provides superior gain before feedback
  • Frequency response tailored for vocals, with brightened midrange and bass rolloff to control proximity effect
  • Shock-mounted cartridge for exceptional ruggedness and reduced handling noise
  • Built-in "pop" filter that reduces explosive breath sounds and wind noise
  • Supplied stand adapter and carrying/storage bag
  • Legendary Shure quality and ruggedness

I was debating whether to get a cheap condenser microphone or an SM58. In the end I went for this. I like being able to hold it while recording vocals, it handles plosives well and does a great job in just capturing my voice as opposed to surrounding sounds (which I was afraid of with the more sensitive condenser big diaphragm microphones). On a minus side it does not push out a loud signal, I need to have the gain all the way up on my Novation soundcard but the signal I do get is clean and detailed. So it works well for me.

I picked this mic up at a local music store a while back. The sound quality is comparable to a'58. This thing is tough as nails. I can't seem to break it. No matter how many times I knock over the mic stand or drop it or use it as a hammer to build a stage this thing holds up. Now all you guys that are all about the sm58, take into consideration that with the same amount of money it takes to buy an sm58, you can buy two sm48's. overall this is a great mic and I'll probably buy another one in the future.

I bought this mic used a while back at a local music store. I was fed-up with crapy karioke mics. This was a nice change. I can't seem to brake it. No matter how many times my singer plays frontman this mic holds up and performs flawlessly. The sound quality is comprible to an sm58 and surprisingly this mic is great for snares toms and hi-hats, but don't try and mic any more drums with this mic. Personally I prefer a '57 or '58 but for the price I highly recomend this mic.

Great mic. I've had mine for ten years and, try as I might, I can't break them. I have three of them and use them for ambient horns and vocals. For live vocals, you really can't tell the difference between the -48 and the -58 unless you're a pro, and most people ain't.

But two of these over one -58. You won't be disappointed.
