Legendary for its uncanny ability to withstand abuse that would destroy any other microphone, the Shure SM58 has not only helped to define the sound of rock vocals on stage, it's also been used as a hammer to build stages and gone on to perform flawlessly later at the gig. Using a club's house system? You'll be singing through an SM58. And in the studio? Daniel Lanois always uses the SM58 or Beta 58 on Bono's vocals.

The Shure SM58 Mic is world-renowned for its distinctive upper-midrange presence peak that ensures an intelligible, lively sound. Perfectly fits the hand, balanced for total comfort during long gigs. Frequency response is a smooth, vocal-tailored 50Hz-15kHz, and the price is a bargain considering its life expectancy.

Shure SM58 Mic Features:

  • The world standard for stage vocals
  • Distinctive upper-midrange presence
  • Perfectly balanced and comfortable in the hand
  • Smooth, vocal-tailored frequency response: 50Hz to 15kHz

The ONLY reasone an sm58 mic will not sound good is user error , or you really just cant sing. They are built like a tank , I closed the tailgate of my truck on mine... it dented the tailgate! The microphone although a bit scratched worked perfectly when I got home and pluggeg it back in. Thats really all I have to say. TY Peace

I bought the sm58 at christmas time 2008, and ive used it for recording, live shows, and even instrument recording! It is INSANELY durable, it fell of its mic stand and left a huge dent in the grille, and still sounds perfect. The mic sounds amazing even without EQ or compression.. The price is actually a bit low for its performance.. Thank you shure

I will start by saying that I have owned several mics these past 5 years, and none have pleased me like the SM58 for male vocals. It sounds absolutely awesome. I have owned the Neumann KMS105, Shure KSM9, Wireless Beta 58, 87c, SM87 and SM58. None have come close to my ears, except for the 87c U2 wireless. Granted, I am running the mic through an LA-610 live, which makes it sound even more amazing, but the other mic's also ran through the same signal path, but I did not get the same great results that I have gotten from the SM58. The SM58 has a neutral sound with a bit of girth and grit. I can belt, or sing softly, and it still gives me a tone that pleases me. It should have been the first mic I tried. It would have saved me time and money. Nonetheless, I am very happy now! PS: I would also advise that people do not judge the Shure microphone models by their experiences with the wireless versions. They sound nothing alike! The wired versions sound much better. I currently own the UHF-R/ Beta58. Although nice, it is even inferior to the SM58. Now I will only sing with a wireless mic if I absolutely have to.

Probably the most common mic on the market,(and by probably I mean most definitely.) It is great for live performances because you can drop kick it across the stage and your foot will be hurt more than the mic. Although, if you are serious about recording, condenser mics are the way to go. Try to get this mic in a combo pack if you can (with a stand and cable.) You will not be dissappointed! (unless of course you actually try to drop kick it across a stage. That was just a metaphor.)

I bought one of these SM 58 microphones, even though I don’t think they sound near as good as an EV N/D767a, Audix OM5 or even a Shure Beta 58a. I bought the SM58 because I’m sick and tired of getting flack from sound guys at a gig when I tell them I want to use my own microphone. I don’t like putting my mouth on a microphone that may have been used by someone that was sick with a cold or something. Anyway, I think all these sound guys are really used to the SM58 and have become too lazy to re-adust the settings on their sound board. It would just be sooooooooo much more work for them if they had tweak a knob. Poor guys. Because they are lazy, I had to buy a SM58. A microphone that sounds like a blanket is over it. The SM58 is way overrated. I don’t care how legendary it is considered. It does not sound as good as other microphones. Take your best microphone and put a heavy beach towel over it, if you want it to sound like an SM58.
