Shure has always made great mics. This one is not one of those. It lacks quality and gain. My band mate has an older 58 that blows mine out of the water! I have a 9 dollar NADY that came with a mic stand order. The Nady as far as tone and gain blows this one away although it was a bit noisy.. What a shame huh? I would rather Shure go up on the cost than cut back on quality.

A lot of good mics out there to try, but if you don't have the SM58 to go back to, you'll never know for yourself. It'll fatten up some weaker voices a little, but if you sound lousy, well, this mic will reproduce that very accurately, too... I use this with a Mackie Onyx 1220. I also have an Audix OM-2, which I use more for acoustic guitar.

I just don't think this mic cuts it. I found that when there was a lot of other noise in the room (e.g. a plugged-in guitar, somebody else on another mic) it couldn't keep up with the rest of the sound. Plus, not having a switch is INCONVENIENT. If you do get this mic, get the one with a switch - spend the extra $5 for sure.

This mic has it all. Sound, Durability, and looks. I have had this mic for over two years and mine has shown no sign of aging. It sounds as crisp and capturing as the day I bought it. No other brand compares to Shure. I have an AKG D9000, but i don't even use it for practice since the day i recieved this mic. The on/off switch is more than worth the extra 5 dollars. Get this one, not the one without the switch. Feedback is just too painful.

I bought the sm58 2 yrs. ago! I play in a metal band with a power mad guitarist & bass player! This mic has performed very well for what I paid! The sound difference far surpasses the AKG mics I started out with! I sang through a shure when I was in California and fell in love with the sound! The only problem I've found is in high gain situations it feeds back slightly! Like I said though, I play with power mad people who think they need to be heard over the drums!
