Great Program

When I first started using this program I didn't think it was going to get the job done. I was wrong. I am very new at the home recording gig and found out that this program is fine, the problem was me. I laid down an acoustic guitar track that I wrote and then tried to lay down a vocal track on top and the vocals were lagging behind the guitar. The problem was very frustrating but easily fixed. You have to manually adjust for what is called "latency". In laymans terms, there is a gap between when you start recording and when the soundcard on your PC starts actually recording. If you don't understand this you will think this program is junk. You just select "options", then "Preferences", then "audio device". Uncheck the box that says "auto detect latency" as this feature apparently does not work very well. Left click on the "adjust manually" slider and use your arrow key to move the slider to the right until the latency gap is closed. The only way to do this is by experimenting as it varies from one PC to the next. On mine, I started at "0" and ended up at "75". Lay down a sample track, and then keep laying down additional tracks, adjusting the latency manually each time, until the recordings' beat/tempo match. Once I got this figured out the program worked great. Recording is soooooo easy with this program but the tutorials are lacking. I even went to the program web site and couldn't find help for this problem.

Simply The Best

I have used Garage Band, Magix Music Maker, Cake Walk, Cubase, and a few others. Acid pro wins hands down. This absolutely does multi-track recording. I have done four part harmony on four seperate tracks, recorded accoustic guitar, saxophone, and several other things with no problem at all. And it's super easy. You can render the track in any format, apply a plethora of effects to individual tracks, change pitches, pan speakers, change the volume of one tiny spot on a track etc. Super easy. I love it!!!

Great Software

I found acid music studio to be simple, straight forward, but extremely useful. Just hit record, listen to it, add the wanted plug-ins, and then hit record again to record the next track. If you need a basic recording software with good plug-ins, this is all you need.

I think this is a great product for Home Studio use. It has pretty much everything you need to produce really good CDs. And I've used it to multitrack, but I'm not too demanding. One thing you do need to realise is that you need to set the options to counter what many here are refereing to as a shortcoming - latency. Latency is caused by the power of your computer - less power more gap between the timing of the first track and how the computer has had to process your second track and put it alongside the first. Thats' hwre all the out of time errors come from (apart from your own bad time). You;ll need to do an Automatically detect and offset to counteract hardware recording latency. It's in the drop down menus of the product. Most software recording packages have this problem and its effect differs in line with the power of your computer system and the hardware you have installed. Select the check box to automatically compensate for offset between the time you initiate recording and when your sound card starts recording. Clear the check box and drag the User recording latency offset slider to specify an offset value to fix it.

I've had this software for about a year now, and using it has been quite nice. The interface is very user friendly, and the controls are intuitive (for me at least). Bottom line is, if you want a digital home studio that is easy to use, and produces good sounding work, Music Studio 7, and a Lexicon Omega interface will do just fine. I've recorded music with this setup that sounds better than some of my protools recordings.
