Not bad but some serious frequency peaks

I bought these headphones -- as many of us do -- based on the reviews of others. Overall the headphones sound great, smooth sound, and pleasant (for the most part) reproduction of audio. My only major complaint is that there is some resonance in a high-mid frequency that is overly pronounced and only occurs when that note is hit during a song. For example, during songs from both Coldplay and Jeremy Enigk the vocals hit some note that suddenly becomes louder and slightly piercing in an unpleasant way. Again, this is my only gripe with the headphones. Other then that they sound great.

Ok, I have tried a zillion monitor headphones, these are the best I have heard for the money. They are as good as if not better than the MDR-7509/7506(?). Well balanced sound, great freq response, the highs arent too bright but are sharp enough, super detailed. The ONLY downfall I can think of and the same can be said for most headphones of this size is that they can be a bit heavy on the old ears themselves, like physically that is, if you have them on for hours on end, but the sound quality is unsurpassed. I'd def recommenced.

Before I had the luck of coming across the V6s, I thought affordable headphones always had to be substandard. These puppies are affordable, sound AMAZING, and feel GREAT. Now $100 might not be in the "affordable" category for some of you people. OK, if you want your mixes to sound like horse piss that's fine. Using the MDR-V6s is like being slapped across the face with a large salmon, except the salmon is great sound quality and comfort. I also think of a unicorn crossing an open meadow in springtime, bending down to drink from a brook, and then scampering away to play with his buddies.

I've had these a good 5 years, and they still sound great. Even my band mates were surprised at how much they could hear when we were on the road a couple months ago. Comfortable for a few hours on the head, they block out a lot of sound, and are durable.

The foam on the ears has started to pull away, but with how much wear and tear they've been through, I don't mind at all. They still work great. For this price, you can't go wrong.

I bought a pair of these in 1987. I still have them and they still work perfectly. GREAT sound response! Most recording studios I've been in dont have headphones half this good. Highly recommended!
