Where's the Power Switch?

This mixer was a good little workhorse that acted as a hub for any gear that I needed to connect for demonstrations. But after only about two years, it inexplicably died due to the same issues as one of the previous reviewers. The lack of a power switch really hurts the quality of this unit, especially when it is a stationary mixer with many other things connected. I wouldn't buy it again.

Nice while it lasted

This was a nice little basic mixer while it lasted. The other day when I went to used it, I smelled burning electronics. Sure enough it had burned out. Smoke came out of the headphone jack when i unplugged it. I opened it up and the power transistor was totally fried along with a swollen capacitor. The lack of a power switch is a real oversight on this unit. I had it for two years which isn't very long. My Mackie 12VLZ last more than 10 years.

Power supply fried itself.

I've owned a Compact 10 for about 1.5 years. It was great. All the mic/instrument/turntable/RCA/TR/TRS inputs, plus the multiple busses and outputs were very handy to have in such a small package.

BUT, just recently I found the mixer without power. I tested the wall wart to find mV instead of the voltage it called for... I got in touch with Soundcraft and they said "yeah, the power supply fried, and subsequently fried the wall wart because you left it on all the time." Sure, I left it plugged in all the time because THERE'S NO POWER SWITCH. The unit is powered on when its plugged in... no option to leave it plugged in with out the mixer powered up. So now my mixer is fried, and I'm not about to buy another one.

Great for recording!

This is a great little mixer. It works extremely well for recording but as already mentioned, sending something out to record will remove it from the mains. You can also select individually which channels go the to the monitors.

My only complaint with this mixer only really becomes apparent when used for live situations where you want add effects to individual channels. The lack of any sort of aux send/return is painful.

All that aside, I've had no problems with my mixer and use it regularly for recording to minidisc, my laptop, and tape. I have no problems with feed through as mentioned by others and find the channels extremely quiet.

BTW, the battery light is for a battery pack that is an add-on for the unit (but may not be available yet).

Again, great unit as long as you don't need aux send/returns or mind having channels drop from the mains when you send them out the record bus.

BTW, seperate phantom power and insert points on the mono channels come in handy as does the ability to plug Hi-Z components directly into 2 of the channels.

If you need more recording abilities look into multichannel recording units (like the Tascam 402) or the Mackie Onyx mixers (with firewire).

I bought this mixer for my small home studio, and I just ca not say enough about it it is the best, man. I've worked with Soundcraft before and their quality is awesome.
