The stylish new desk gets its looks from the highly successful and popular MH3 and MH4 touring sound consoles, and includes a new frame, module ID graphics and end-cheeks, making the LX7ii not only easy to use but creating a system that will be the envy of professionals everywhere.

Electronically, the LX7ii gains a new Soundcraft mic-preamp and EQ section, both designed by Soundcraft founder and electronics wizard Graham Blyth. The new 4-band EQ with swept mid sections is based on the highly acclaimed EQ in the new MH3 and MH4 touring consoles.

The GB30 mic preamps on the LX7ii possess much of the quality and precision of the mic preamps used on Soundcraft's biggest touring desk, while still being cost sensitive.

The GB30 EQ gives a steeper than usual slope on the fixed LF and HF sections, removing unwanted mid-frequency "mush" and delivering a clearer sound. It is a cost-effective design that brings high-end equalization into an affordable mixing console for the first time.

Other standard features of the Soundcraft LX7ii include 24 inputs, 4 stereo inputs/returns with 4 groups, main stereo output and a dedicated mono output for center clusters. There are direct outputs on the first 16 inputs suitable for multitrack recording, and 6 auxes providing flexibility for effects and foldback. The LX7ii mixes to 7 outputs—4 subgroups, plus the main Left, Right and Center (Mono) mix outputs.

The music mixer continues the tradition of the highly successful original LX7 in its applications in live performance PA, installed systems in churches, theaters and any similar application where a compact-sized console needs to provide a large number of inputs and maximum output capability. Both recording and live applications are easily satisfied.

None Better for the Money!

I have been running pro sound for over nine years. I work with everything from local rock bands to national acts, complete with their own traveling sound techs. Hands-down there is no better board than the Soundcraft LX7. Mine has be running flawlessly for over five years. Great flexibility, superb sound quality, quiet, wonderful features. I also have an HP-8 Crest, but I prefer the Soundcraft. Easier to move, with better mic-preamps. Even the national sound techs love this board.

The worst of both worlds

This is Soundcraft's kick at the Behringer/Mackie market, using one big circuit board instead of independent strips, and while they've put a very good feature set together, they could learn a lot about cheap manufacturing from Behringer. I'm the house sound tech at a club with one of these boards, and in 9 months the center master channel died, a channel strip died, and some minor things never worked out of the box (switches that should be momentary instead toggle and vice versa).

And for all those troubles, this board does not offer any sound improvement over a comparable Behringer. You have to get into boards with independent strips (ie A&H GL2200) to yield any significant improvement, and I'm not even a fan of the GL2200. I own a 20-year-old DDA Interface (bought out by Midas) for live recording, and have used it in my room with bands that I've also mixed with the LX7. With my board it's hard to distinguish PA sound from stage sound, with the LX7 it's much harsher and incoherent.

Ironically probably the best application of this board is for portable use, where you're setting up and tearing down often, and you have to meet those arbitrary "No Behringer" riders, but something will eventually break, and you'll wish you could get Behringer's tech support instead of Soundcraft's. In the end you're paying Soundcraft price for Behringer sound and worse-than-Behringer build quality and support.

Harman does some dumb things...

I own it, but I'm trying to get rid of it. It's an OK mixer. Faders are nice but the pots are in consistant (some tight, some loose). It's wayyy over priced for what it is, and the quality that it is. The dumbest thing is, you can't pan the group faders !?! Why in the world did then not put pans on them??? Even cheap Behringers and Yamaha's have pans? You really only have two groups because of this when you're running stereo. Really Really dumb. The Allen & Heath GL2200 now the GL2400 is a wayyy nicer console for the money, better build, better sound, more features and for the same pricing just about. Get the Allen & Heath instead.

Quiet and Flexible Mixer

This is a truly pro mixer for a great price. It's extremely flexible -- One warning here is know what you are doing, or hire a pro who does, because more flexible means more complicated. The pre-amps are really quiet, and there is plenty of routing power. This is as good as the Allen and Heath that costs $** more, with the only drawback being that it lacks the A&H's modular chanels that can be replaced one at a time. One other minor complaint is the lack of a meter for each chanel. You have to hit pfl to meter each chanel. Still a great mixer!

This mixer is the best buy for a very resonable price. I have been running pro sound for over thirty years. This mixer has great mic pre-amps and loads of headroom. Better than Mackie, Allen-Heath... compare this one to Midas or other pro-level boards.
