why no mix function?

This is a perfectly good unit for CD mixing. It lets you beat-match, cue, etc. EXCEPT there's no mix function to fade from one song to another, which means you have to buy an external mixer for this baby. Very annoying. Newer versions out have the mixer built in, plus a mic in line, and a 3-band EQ, so I'd go with that instead.

ive had this unit for about a year now and it most definitely took care of my needs for the time being, it has given me much aide in becomming familiar with how to deal with spinning cds...having said that its a great starter unit...the only issue ive had is; the odd time it seems like the pitch will just drop down without touching anything

Based on my very first experience with this unit I can't recommend it. It failed to read the first CD-R I mounted in Deck 1. Apparently failure to read also constitutes failer to eject. I never could get my disc back out of it and returned it with the CD still mounted. In Deck 2 I mounted a factory CD and it would read it, but failed to execute play. Returns are easy, and I had a back up in place, so in this case it was only a minor inconvenience. However, I would advise steering clear of purchasing this item if you're serious about needing a reliable deck.
