Synthogy has officially released the first Universal Binary version of Ivory for Audio Units. This is for all users of Intel Based Macs and is also recommended for users with Mac PowerPC processors running OS 10.4 or greater. Included in this download and installation is the first release of the Ivory Standalone version for Mac.

Both the standalone version and the AU UB update plug-in are installed in the same package.

I am very impressed with Ivory. Three different grand pianos, each with different presets for slight variation, effects, velocity customization, etc... I use it as a vst in Sonar, and it works like a charm. Yes it uses a some ram, but if your buying products like this you can afford another gig of ram, if that ever is a problem.

I was a little skeptical of synth pianos, but now I'm sold....

I was blown away with Synthogy Ivory Grand Pianos! The "true to life" realistic sounds and feel of these beautifully sampled pianos are superb. The editing parameters are very well thought out, easy to use, and highly effective in adjusting each distinct piano to my taste and playing style. Each piano sounds awesome and the synth pads were a pleasant surprise. This is the best value purchase I've made in a long time. I'm in piano heaven!

These pianos are awesome. I have protools running on my black macbook(2 GHZ, 2Gb) with a mbox 2, and Ivory and I still have 300 mbs of memory left over (It's not much but its better than 0). They sound really good when all voices are on. I first tried this with a usb 2.0 7200 rpm drive but I kept getting the slow drive message. So if your going to get this make sure you have firewire 400 or above(Firewire 800,SATA,etc.)

First off it will not work on vista. Nice sound, somewhat "cotten like". The "proper" trend in piano voicing currently leans toward soft hammers. I beg to differ. Very stressing on the computer. Somewhat overblown in my opinion. As if they want to go down in history as the biggest piano program of all time. But does not work on Vista and will not anytime soon according to tech support. So I own it but I can't use it. I had it 4 days then I got vista. Also I feel their graphics are poor.

I took piano lessons off and on as a child. I was inspired to pick it up again sometime around when Ben Folds went solo. I was searching for an authentic grand piano package. I did research on the most popular packages available. Most people tend to agree that Ivory is a notch above the competition (The Grand from Steinberg and Akoustic Pianos from Native Instruments). I listened to online demos and had the same opinion. Now that I've purchased and used this instrument, I can say with confidence that I made the right decision.

Three pianos are included. They range from mellow (Bosendorfer) to bright (Yamaha), with the Steinway somewhere in between. Aside from the authenticity of the piano sounds, each piano can be customized. The timbre, ambience and dynamic sensitivity can altered, which can drastically change the tone without sacrificing the realism of the instrument.

This is a pretty expensive instrument from a computer resource perspective. In addition to 40 GB of samples on 10 DVD's, you'll need a lot of memory for the advanced features. I have 2 GB of RAM, which is enough to run Ivory by itself, but not necessarily enough to run it simultaneously with other applications and effects packages. I'm thinking of upgrading to 3 or 4 GB in the near future.

All in all, I don't know how anyone could be disappointed with this. A couple of years ago, I used to dream of owning a baby grand piano. Pair this software with a decent hammer action keyboard, and there's no longer a need for that.
