Peerless TC audio engineering in a portable computer recording interface.
The Konnekt 8 audio interface is the ideal solution for recording and performing musicians who want the highest possible sound quality from input to the recording application. The Konnekt 8 has two combo inputs on the front panel with outstanding mic preamps as well as true Hi-Z guitar-optimized circuitry. The light ring gives you easy access, instant control and visual feedback on important parameters directly from the front panel. You can stack up to four Konnekts together using the 1394 FireWire-based TC NEAR (Network Expandable Audio Recording) to obtain a massive amount of I/O. If you are working with active monitors, you'll appreciate the analog volume control that ensures a wide dynamic range. Dual headphone outputs are convenient when there are two performers in the studio and one of the headphone outputs comes with an auto speaker muting function.
IMPACT—Integrated Mic PreAmp Circuit Technology
Konnekt comes with two high quality IMPACT preamps that give you the very best opportunity to make outstanding quality recordings. The IMPACT preamps are based on dedicated and steadfast technology that ensures a perfect and unbiased signal flow—from the first to the last take.
Guitar audio Hi-Z inputs
TC has built dedicated guitar input circuits into the Konnekt. No need to mic up your guitar amp, just connect your guitar directly into one of the two Hi-Z guitar inputs on the front panel and apply your favorite choice of guitar software to your recording. The Hi-Z inputs are based on circuits that are tailor-made to preserve the original tone and sonic quality of guitar and bass instruments.
Ultimate signal path
The 24-bit/192 kHz Konnekt 8 audio interface is based on TC's yearlong research into analog design and converter technology, as well as the experience from other landmark products like the Finalizer and the flagship System 6000. The internal architecture gives you an optimum signal path from the inputs and on to the recording application.

Returned after a couple of weeks of struggling. I use Mac OS X Leopard and Logic 8. MIDI never worked. I had tried with 2 different MIDI keyboards, with different audio/MIDI settings-still nothing. Seemed like it never recognized the MIDI devices at the interface. Maybe I got a defective, maybe it's a Logic thing(it comes with Cubase software for win and seems to work with it well)- no way to know what was wrong. The quality itself was quite good, as you would expect from TC electronics, and the sound was crystal clear. The desktop interface software was also nice. One thing I didn't like, in addition to the MIDI issue, was that the unit itself is FREAKISHLY big. For a home studio musician like myself whose working space is limited, this can be a serious issue. Now I replaced it with Edirol FA-66 which has an almost equal/better features and is about a half in size, and I am very happy with that. So windows/cubase users, go for it, Mac/logic fellas, stay away.

No manual. No fire wire cable. No "power on" indicator lamp. I could live with those failures,
IF THE UNIT WORKED. It doesn't. Tried it on 4 computers -- 2 Macs and 2 PCs -- WOULD NOT WORK.
Maybe I got a bad one -- who cares? AVOID THIS PIECE OF JUNK!

I purchased this item in hopes of getting a decent audio interface. We all know of TC Electronics contributions to audio and you know its a reputable name bread. The day I picked it up the sales rep told me that he had recently purchased the Firepod (presonus) and that he tried this after and was upset because the sound quality was way better. So I rushed home and hooked this up to my setup and was pleasantly amazed at the ins and out possiblities and then the sound was Crystal clear. It has made me aware of other deficances in my studio setup; as in needing new monitors. Im Running the firewire connection of my Dell Laptop and running the Digital output to my Dell desktop. I mean the possibilites are endless. Also this is a Stand alone box which means I dont even need the computers to record. Which works when my less computer literate friends are working. All around great product. Ive had for a few weeks and havent found an issue to grip about it. Every day in the studio i find new ways to add another in or an out... Cant go wrong with this!. Plays well with Vista also!

I've had this unit for a week. I previously had an M-Audio 410. I absolutely love it so far. The pre-amps are clean and crisp. The build quality of this thing is incredible and it looks really cool. Also, I get no noise from my monitors unlike the 410. It has great features, a good control panel and solid drivers. As long as it works like this forever, this is a MUST BUY.
