The DP-004 Pocketstudio has been updated with 4 tracks of CD-quality digital recording. Like the classic Portastudios, a row of knobs sets levels and pan instead of a list of menus. The DP-004 can record 2 microphones at once to layer and mix tracks on the included 1GB SD Card. A built-in stereo condenser microphone makes it simple to use the TASCAM DP-004 to record anywhere you go. Or you can plug your microphones into the rear-panel inputs.

Once you set levels and pan, record your mix to the dedicated stereo master track and transfer to a computer over USB 2. I got the unit used but in mint condition so the issues I have with it may be attributed to the previous owner. It froze up on me once, and sometimes it doesn't get power from the batteries. (even if brand new, usually while the AC adapter gets accidentally pulled out. moving or taking out and replacing the batteries solves the problem, but I have lost info because of this) the mastering of songs doesnt produce much difference, to me at least. If you want to record live shows DEFINITELY get a 4g or higher card. two tracks on a 1g card lasts for about 44 min. the quality of recording is fine, the mics are fine, and is very easy to operate, most controls are obvious as to what they do (for most people that are fluent on common digital interfaces) good for beginning mixing (but no eq, get your own!) ideas that need to be quickly recorded and live shows and practices. Its good, I like it.

Have owned this for about 4 months and recording couldn't be easier. Built in condenser mics are great for acoustic recordings and a quick way to record jam sessions. Wish the LCD screen was backlit but that is hardly a complaint. Love this device.

Truly the size of a paperback novel. Makes tremendous sounding recordings for the low cost. Impressive Tascam build quality and very good sounding built-in mikes. No effects or inserts, but an incredible tool for writing and trying out parts. You can't go wrong. Highly recommended.

Being a proud owner of the tascam 464, I purchased the pocketstudio, thinking it was the next logical step. I was very wrong. I just returned the product and can not wait to have my account credited, so that I can start writing songs with something that works. I spent my hard earned money, & was disappointed.
