The TASCAM FireOne is a FireWire audio interface with shortcut keys and a weighted, illuminated jog wheel that let you interact more creatively and intuitively with your computer and your music. The FireOne records using two mic inputs and provides two outputs overhigh-speed FireWire at 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution. The FireOne's most unique feature is its large, weighted, backlit jog wheel that allows musicians to zip through their song while the backlight provides useful feedback such as a visual metronome. In addition, the FireOne has easy-to-use tapedeck-like transport keys and eight shortcut keys to control functions in most popular DAW applications.

The FireOne features a pair of mic inputs with phantom power and pad switches. A front panel guitar input allows convenient direct recording of guitar or bass. MIDI input and output are also provided for 16 channels of MIDI. FireOne comes with Ableton Live Lite TASCAM Edition multitrack recording software, so you'll be set to begin creating music right out of the box.

I'd give it 5 stars if it was 64bit...

I was told by a Tascam rep at NAB 2009 that this would soon be 64bit, but it has not happened as of yet. I have one 32 bit system at the studio and two 64 bit sytems for video editing and recording. It works great on the lesser 32 bit system, but I bought two and the second one is just collecting dust due to driver issues.

My 64 bit workstations are where I need this product, not the 32bit. On a brighter note it works wonderfully on Sony Vegas 8.0 once programed, it would save time if it had preset plug-ins for it.

This is made for Tascam, who promised 64 bit drivers and 192KHz sampling. They totally dropped the ball on this one, making this thing a toy. For about $50 dollars, this might be worth it. It looks good on paper, but without 64 bit drivers, it's already obsolete. A decent idea ruined by incompetent management. I'll avoid both Tascam and Frontier Design group who made this thing.

I purchased it to use on my MacBook, The black one made late last year, and when I loaded the drivers and software that has the control panel, it would load but when I went to do the install as instructed, it would not do anything. My mac also could not see it when plugged in. Useless piece of plastic. I loaded the other software package, Live Lite 6 and it was kind of cheesy. I was able to hear my mic thru but had to turn up the gain all the way up. Tried kicking in the phantom power and that made it worse. I have original Shure SM58's made in the seventies that work flawless and sound amazing. Made in USA. I don't know where they are making the new one's now. The unit itself was made out of light plastic and the supposedly weighted control knob is very cheap, scrapes the case as you turn it and it is Not Weighted. Sorry Tascam, but this is not a weighted control knob. Would not buy it again. Do not recommend. No wonder Tascam discontinued it.

I am using this with Sonar and in Vista and it works flawlessly. It took me a little to get it configured right but since then recording has been a breeze and all the controls have worked great. The phantom power always works nicely and is great for recording with a condensor mic.

Everything about this interface has worked flawlessly, too bad Tascam decided to discontinue it as it really is one of the best in its class

This little item has worked great for me over the past several months. The jog feature works really nice. The only downside I can see is that I have to crank the gain almost all the way up to get a decent level on my mics (w/ phantom power enabled even).
