The Tascam GT-R1 Portable Guitar and Bass Recorder is a hand-held stereo digital recorder with a built-in high-quality stereo condenser microphone. The A/B configuration stereo mic allows natural wide sound "near-to-human" listening and there is a variable-angle microphone mechanism to help you find the elusive "sweet spot" for the best recordings.

The GT-R1 recorder also accepts both direct guitar or bass input and has built-in multi effects and preset rhythm patterns. The overdub function lets you create perfect tracks. The GT-R1 allows MP3 and WAVE file recording/playback to/from memory. It performs 48/44.1kHz 24-bit (uncompressed) digital recording to SD/SDHC cards. Other features include analog auto gain control, limiter, and low cut filter. The GR-R1 also has a 1/8" powered external mic input for use with electret condenser mic such as the TASCAM TM-ST1, which adds mid-side stereo recording. (The TM-ST1 terminates to a 1/8" jack.)

The Tascam GT-R1 Portable Guitar and Bass Recorder also functions as a trainer. With variable speed playback the digital recorder gives you the ability to slow down the speed of a CD without changing the pitch and allows you to quickly learn rhythm, lead, or bass parts of your favorite artists. The GT-R1 can reduce Guitar or Bass tracks from the music so you can hear yourself as you play along. It has a built-in tuner and metronome.

The GT-R1 has user-friendly easy operation and has a 128 x 64 graphic LCD with backlight, USB 2.0 Mass Storage, and operates on a rechargeable removable battery. It can also be recharged like an iPod using the USB from a computer. It includes a soft case and a 1GB SD card.

I have been writing songs for over forty years starting using two sony reel to reel mono recorders to overdub it worked but sound was bad this was in the sixties. In the 70's I bought a sony TC-640b with sound on sound also reel to reel. then on to a Tascam 4 track sim u sync reel to reel running at 15 ips using 10" reels this machine still works well. Then on to studios, the best way to go if you cab affird it. Now

The unit appears to be very fragile if it would fall on the ground I think it would be destroyed I had trouble loading music from my laptop It was so frustrating I tried for hours with no success. Unit was returned. It did have nice feautres such as the recorder, the drum machine but I could not load music in it. Not a happy camper

The only problem I have is the learning curve, Its a rugged little thingthat does more than just a digital recorder, like go on the internet download a song you want to learn and play it back slow.until you get the idea. play a drum track (metronome) while you are playing. Record your own guitar play it back and record your voice, go back and add a base line, or some riffs put it all together bam.

This thing is pretty nice. The guitar trainer is great for learning songs. I do a lot of covers with a female vocalist so it is nice being able to tune up songs to where we play them. It makes it a lot easier to learn new stuff. The recorder is decent but will give you a little noise if you try and turn the pres up too much. The one thing that I don't like about it is that you can't connect it to the USB to charge and use it as the same time. You have to get the adaptor if you want to use it and change it at the same time.
