Since this is a first review, I'll be as comprehensive as possible. The mixer, as a mixer, is good, i guess. silent, flexible, it's nice. But whatever. I forked out the cash to do multitrack recording.

Well, getting this thing to do what I wanted was such a pain, but it was worth it. Being the first multitrack setup I have used, I went in unarmed. First off, cubase doesn't function with 64-bit Vista. After installing, it fails to launch. Not too much of a problem fir me because I managed to get it to work with Sonar Cakewalk 4 (old, i know). But the trick to that was realising that ASIO drivers were actually better than WDK/MS drivers for the mixer. Everywhere the two are compared, the opposite is stated. It's not as though the mixer doesn't support WDK/MS, in fact it is the default driver and works flawlessly up to 6 channels. Anymore, however, and theres dropouts galore. Setting to ASIO solves dropout problems and I recorded 15 minutes straight of 12 tracks no issues. Noted, I had a profile in vista built for speed on an already fast, 2 month old computer, so this was expected. Before I figured out the asio trick, I emailed tascam. 6 weeks later, I still haven't gotten a response. Maybe their call line is better?(couldn't be worse) Luckily I didn't *need* them.

Other things worth mentioning: the mixer has problems with some windows programs if you use it as the sound output. Not a big deal, but annoying. The effects aren't recordable to my knowledge. I wouldn't use them anywho, but some might. Everything's plastic. I don't care, but again, some might. When recording, there's a send for every channel up to 12. After that, you have have to configure the on-mixer sends to separate the other 4 if you wish to do a total of 13 or more. Hard to set up, harder to explain (but doable).

End of story- NOT recommended if your bad with computers and don't have cakewalk. Recommended if your a computer guru or have a mac (lent it to a friend whos a mac user- no problems)
