The fast, flexible, and affordable center of your computer music setup.
If your band is overflowing with ideas and you're ready to lay down some tracks, or you want to capture the fruit of your church choir's hard work, the 16-channel TASCAM US-1641 computer interface is one of your best choices for properly setting the recording straight. Eight mic/line inputs plus an additional six line inputs offer enough channels to give every instrument and voice a chance to shine and the included Cubase LE, Version 4, offers state-of-the art recording power to craft the right mix.
Small enough to fit into only one rackspace, this TASCAM interface is ideal for both studio and portable computer recording, and since the mic/line inputs are on the front panel, there's no need for crawling behind a rack to get going. On the rear panel, however, there are four balanced line inputs for interfacing with synths, effects, mic preamps, or anything with a line level out. With the TASCAM US-1641 you'll also get up to 96kHz/24-bit resolution without having to lower the input/output count and zero-latency monitoring to prevent distracting delays for your performers during recording.
Besides Cubase LE, you'll also receive the TASCAM Continuous Velocity Piano (PC), a responsive piano virtual instrument powered by GVI in VSTi format. Naturally, the US-1641 is ASIO, GSIF2, and CoreAudio compatible for use with Logic Pro, Digital Performer, Cubase, SONAR, Nuendo, Final Cut Pro, Soundtrack, Vegas, Live, GigaStudio, and most other audio recording software.

Great price, no problem with full multitracking up to 14 tracks at once with a Dell Latitude D800 laptop. After my initial testing period it became my small studio on the go. Then I can come back to continue mixing at my larger desk. No sync problems as with other overpriced/overranked brands. I really like this unit.

I bought this product because the company has made some good products in the past, but I must say not this time.I have had issues with this machine from the beginning with it working with my computers, I have tried it with Windows XP,VISTA and now Windows 7 it has never worked properly, It will record for a few seconds and then stop working,I have adjusted all my settings just as recommended and still no success, I have talked with Tech support at Tascam and they have been of no help what so ever,I have not seen anything this difficult to use in all the time I've been doing this, so i will be calling this a very expensive lesson and going to Pro Tools. If you are thinking of buying an interface get something besides this product and save yourself a lot of time, money and frustration.

Got this interface a few months ago and it worked great, but my computer was not fast enough to keep up with it, so I upgraded my computer to a Windows 7, 64-bit computer, and have had nothing but trouble since. Tascam has removed their Win 7 driver for 64 bit computers, and no idea as to when there will be one. The one they did have didnt work anyways. Works on my old computer and my buddy's (XP and Vista). No one is telling you (MF or Tascam) that it doesnt work worth a flip in Win 7, so Beware!!! Maybe when they fix the driver, happy days will return.

I've owned this unit since mid 2008. I've recorded several songs with it and never had any issues. I use it in my home studio at times tracking up to 10 simultaneous inputs w/o any latency issues. Great buy if you're looking for a versatile multichannel interface. My only complaint would be the preamp knobs are plastic and feel a little weak. This has no effect on the unit itself.

I have owned this product for a year this month. It was my first interface, and has thus far exceeded in every way. Within my first week of having it, I tracked drums using 8 mics and did not experience any latency issues. I don't claim to be an engineer or pro, however if you're looking for a great interface with on board pre's that have clean headroom, but still want to be able to connect your own gear with simple line in's, this is your guy.
I first ran it on a three year old laptop that was running XP, no problems, then I switched to a brand new laptop running Vista and my newer Presonus interface could not handle it, but the Tascam US-1641 could, now I'm on to 7 Home Premium 32 bit and still not a single hick-up. Bottom line, go for it if you want a good, budget interface with plenty of inputs.
